Dr. Joachim Milberg, Retired Chief Executive Officer, BMW Group, Nominated For Election to Deere & Company Board of Directors

Deere & Company announced today that Dr. Joachim Milberg, retired Chief Executive Officer of Bayerische Motoren Werke (BMW) AG, has been nominated for election to the Deere & Company Board of Directors. The nomination will be voted upon by shareholders at the company's annual meeting on February 26.

Dr. Milberg, 59, a member of BMW's Board of Management since 1993, was

named BMW's Chairman of the Board of Management in 1999, where he remained

until his retirement in May 2002.

Prior to joining BMW in 1993, Dr. Milberg taught at Munich (Germany)

Technical University. He also served as Director of the Research Institute

for Machine Tools and Management Science with the Centre for Production

Automation and Robot Technology in Munich, and the Production Technology User

Centre in Augsburg, Germany.

Dr. Milberg earned his doctorate in production engineering at the

Technical University of Berlin in 1972.

He is a director of Allianz Versicherungs AG, BMW AG, MAN AG, and Royal

Dutch Petroleum Company/Shell.

Dr. Milberg is the third new member who will have been elected to the

Deere & Company Board of Directors since Robert W. Lane was elected Chairman &

CEO in August 2000. Other members were: Dipak C. Jain, Dean of Northwestern

University's Kellogg School of Management, and Aulana L. Peters, an attorney

and former Commissioner of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
