Dashboard Restoration

Has anyone had their 02 dashboard worked on by Dashboard Restorations USA in Washington State?

They said that they could do my two piece dash and the glove box for $1,200.

When I contacted them they said that they had done many 02 dashes and seemed knowledgeable about them. The sample picts of other dashes seemed fine but he had no picts of 2002 dashes.

Just Dashes in Van Nuys, Ca. wants $1,500 for just the dash and the glove box would be extra.

If anyone has had any experience with either company, I'd really appreciate the feedback. It's a lot of money for such an unknown result.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the reply. Dashboards seems much more personable than Just Dashes. I think I spent 10 min on the phone with them going over what I want and what they do. I think it's a small shop.

Mike...I had my dash restored by Dashboard Restorations USA. I called them and spend a lot of time on the phone and liked what I heard so I sent them the dash. I got the dash back and had it installed in the car. It was beautiful...for about 4 months. At the end of 4 months the covering they put on the dash started lifting. In about 2 days the complete dash lifted and wrinkled off the base. I called them and they were very apologetic and wanted me to send the dash back and said they would fix it for free and also wanted to see what went wrong. I was initially going to send it back to them but was afraid of going thru the whole thing with them a second time. So I told them thanks anyways and I appreciated their offer but was sending my dash to Just Dashes. Just dashes did a good job and it looked just as good as Dashboard restorations job with the exception that it has been 2 years and it still looks good.

I am not trying to put down Dashboard Restorations USA but just relaying my story. In their defense they were willing to redo it for free and wanted very much to find out what happened so they could see if they have to tweak their process and by now they may already have.

IIRC, Dashboard Restoration is in Medford OR.

I spoke with the Werk Shop here in Illinois and they prefer the work done by Dashboard Restoration to Just Dashes.

Mike,

Thanks for the call yesterday. Email responded to regarding body parts, etc.

The main difference between justdashes and just about any other dash restoration service is that justdashes completely remanufactures the part. As the other chap indicated a restored dash may look good for a while, then will eventually develop the same symptoms that we are trying to avoid in the future. Having had many dashes restored by a local specialist for close to 20 years it is less expensive, although will not last.

Hi Armond & Rob,

Thank you both for your input. I think I will go with Just Dashes. Once I get it back, I don't want to take it back out because I saved a couple hundred dollars.

Thanks again,

Mike D.

check out this feedback from a happy customer.

Yes, that is the one I was thinking about and referenced in my first post. They aren't that cheap anymore. I was quoted $1200 for my 3-pc dash.

If any of you guys are trying to restore a 3pc dash, I have a beautiful uncracked/unfaded main upper section I could be persuaded to part with for less than the resto cost and it's original BMW from a '68 that was garaged all the time. This is the only pic I have of it but I can take more. Email me if interested.
