Great old pictures of Great old tracks

I found this site that has some pretty damned cool old shots of Laguna Seca. I absolutely love this track. I find these shots incredibly eye opening to see the transformation that this track has made over the years.

But I think his date is incorrect for adding the extra turns on the track.

The drivers school I did in 1988 was the old track. Out of the hairpin by the pit wall, then power on up the hill, down the hill, up the hill and no brakes until turn 3. I can remember this vividly because I had a 4 cylinder 2002 and all the 6 cylinders would just walk away from me there. I'd usually catch up by the time we came back to turn 9.

Same story on Willow. I was so happy to get to Sears Point. The 6's had to really work it there.

We can always ask Ken Whitson, engineer and BMWCCA member who's firm did those Laguna Seca projects.... :P

I still have a printout of the before and after from his office from one of the many post Historics parties he used to host there. :)

This truly was/is a shame ... Residents in the area of the track complained about noise pollution from the track... So now they have a beautiful new golf course and tons of ACTUAL fertilizer based nitrogen pollution....located by the way directly above the east end of long islands biggest aquifer.... Ahhh the sweet smell of progress!

I was going to those drivers school, too (assuming you went to the BMW ACA ones) and also one after the change. Since I moved to Seattle in 1989 and I did the school before I moved, I would guess the change had to be in 1988...

Bridgehampton.... typical.. people buy/build a house NEXT TO A RACETRACK and then complain about noise. Heh?

At least I know my tii has completed many many days at that track with the previous owner.

One of my coworkers (PCA guy) also remembers that track as well. Fun place from what I hear.

I was in the last driving school with the old configuration. It was in 1987.

I remember the earth moving equipment was already on site waiting to go to work the next day. I haven't been there since. I have raced @ Sears Point, Thunderhill and points North. G

NOW A FERKING GOLF COURSE -

those bastards!

All too familiar a problem isn't it CD. I remember Riverside International as a kid (Lived pretty close in Palm Springs), and now that's a huge ass shopping mall. Developers are just as to blame for this as the residents who move into these homes near race tracks. They should disclose what living next to a race track is like (how many days of noise to expect, what level of noise to expect, traffic conditions to expect, military fly overs to expect, blimps hovering over their pool regulary, etc etc etc.) and the residents should be required to sign something saying they understand what they're moving in next to, and promise not to complain under penalty of flogging.

Don't even click here unless you love old sports car racing in California and have lots of time to kill. Wonderful site on California racing in the 60's. Good way to kill a couple of hours.

Now I have to go dig out the pic of my car diving into 5. I know I put the month/year on the back.

I could have changed late in 1988. I joined the CCA in May of '88, and the Laguna school was one of the first events I did.
