Hi,

I can't seem to find a store to by straight 90wt Hypoid GL-4 oil for my steering box as per CD's recommendations.

Anyone have a link to buy online or ?

What do you put in your steering box? Not GL-5, right?

Thanks,

Jason

You probably wont find SAE 90 gear lube available, it's all multi grade today. Single grade oils way back then were called for because in gear lubes multi grades were not made then. If you are using a cheap lube, then use single grade because in a cheap lube, thee viscosity improvers are trash and thin out in use, then thicken up when they oxidize but do not provide lubricity when they thickern.

You can use a product MTG from Amsoil (it is a 75W-90) or Redline has one also in GL-4. I've use the std 80W-90 GL-5 from Amsoil since 1978. In less than sever gear loads, GL-5 is not needed. No synchros in the steering box, so no worry there.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

and your 'open' rear diff :

search for-

HONDA (outboard gear oil) SAE 90 GL4

YAMALUBE (outboard gear oil) SAE 90 GL4

Cool, thanks Jim. I have a Valvoline 80-90wt hypoid GL-5 oil that is probably ok then. I still need to find a local Redline dealer.

Thanks again, I feel better now.

Missed your post CD. That's great, thanks for the links. Although I think I am ok I'll take a look around for them.
