where is the VIN number?

I need to know wich one is the VIN number. is it the one on the plate in the hood? because when I enter the number 3631375 in some browsers recognize it as a 5´E34 1988

I bought it this year. the papers says it is a 1973

your VIN number is in THREE places :

the metal tag rivetted just behind the right front shock mount

the strip of inner fender just below the right corner of the windshield

where the paint is cleaned off - the number is stamped

and right behind your steering wheel,

ontop of the plastic column cover - another strip of aluminum

riveted -

ALL THREE NUMBERS SHOULD MATCH

or else you have a car which someone

has been fuching with?

VIN also stamped onto the engine block behind the starter on the bellhousing.

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/13/32/ Your VIN should start with a 258XXXX if it's a 73 (unless it's a Euro spec model). 73 tii VIN started with a 276XXXX.

What no one else has bothered to mention is the fact that only 17 digit VINs are recognized by most search engines. They were not standardized in the US until 1981. Consequently, VINs from cars of the 2002s era must be sought out in different ways. You will find the VIN in the places already mentioned, which answers your specific question. Carlos, 1973 and earlier cars sometimes don't show up in ETK/realoem. My 75 and 76 do though.. I'm not sure where the cutoff point is, my friend's 73 Tii shows as a 7 series.

3631375 = 1973 European 2002.

Please tell us more about your car (and share some pics).

Note the clean rear body that doesn't have the side markers, rear reflectors and tag lights on the body that the US models have. Very nice.
