Auto electrical question

The short answer is probably not. As you decrease the voltage with a constant resistance (your horn) the current decreases proportionally and the current does the work. So your horn would sound like it need Horn Viagra, at best. Try it, you won't wreck anything.

You are a single guy, don't want a flaccid horn, do ya?

Joel,

Most accessories that are 6V don't work well without the proper power connection. A while back, you could easily find a "voltage drop" device to allow you to keep using your vintage 6V radio with 12V battery. Some looked like a potentiometer with rotating knob, others had a sliding tab that ran along a coil.

Regarding our pre-67 VW's, the original 6V starter soleniod will live when connected to a 12V battery as long as you don't keep holding the starter for long periods of time. I did this with my '66 Bug.

Thanks Jim.

I remember those reducer boxes.

I'm trying to go the other way on this one though. No 12 V conversion.

Still all 6V system just wanted to see if a 12V horn accessorie would work on a 6V system and still have enough juice to keep it kicking.

Jim. I'll get all those Roundel mags out to you when the Post Office reopens.
