BMW Twin Cam Mini

Just thought I'd post a couple of pics of my friend's mini engine build.

It's finally nearing completion, just need to install the 4 motorcycle carbs.

I think it looks real purty.

Does it use an A series Block and bottom end?

Yes it does.

They had to fill and redrill some oil and water routes, but everything else fits.

It's going in here. This shot was the test fitting, about a year ago.

Is that the 8V or 18V head? I've thought about doing the same conversion to my Mini, mostly to get a crossflow head so it could be megasquirted. This is the head from a K series BMW bike - mates to a BMC A-series engine fairly easily.

Did your friend buy the kit to do the conversion from Australia?

This particular head comes off the Formula BMW open wheeler. 16 valves.

They started out using a kit form Morspeed in England but had muchos problemos with Morspeed's ethics.

They have bit of a dicy reputation, and ended up not delivering paid for parts. the guy who is actually building the car, Don Sobering is a Mini "Guru" and also team manager for the Aim Motorsports Rolex car. He know his way around an engine. I think he ended up fabricating what he needed.

I've seen some of Don's work from his posts on MiniMania. Very nice.

Morspeed is a company I've only heard bad things about. Enough to ensure that I will never do any business with them.

I'm sure he will post some pics of it when it's finished.

I only hear second-hand about Morspeed.

If you post anything negative about them, they threaten to sue. Losers.
