OK, let's try this from a different perspective...

You can have a car like that without:

five-speed

lsd

A/C

power windows

power rack and pinion steering

factory sport seats

factory header front

intermittant wipers

factory front/rear spoilers

...for $13,500...

or...

a car like this:

...plus $10K in your bank account.

Delia, for an artist, you are too rational...

Driving a 2002 is not a rational decision - my wife reminds me of it, every single day!

That kinda thinking is best kept on the e30 board.....

there is no substitute if it's an 02 that you crave.

+1 for Delia's take on this...I agree totally. While it is indeed eye-catching it's not to my liking overall. It's a vintage 2002, so leave it that way - don't try to make it into another model. If you like blacked out trim go buy the "real thing"! :-)

IF.......

the mechanicals are in order

the paint is as good as the pics

the black out trim was done properly

i like it

the mileage must be a joke because there is no way to verify it being accurate

i like it

i would add its not meant to be a vintage 2002

it is a modded car and needs to be appreciated from that viewpoint

VIN quoted is incorrect. 2593704 was the last number for the 259xxxx series.

Oh, and I like the car. Too much $$$, but I like it. In the '70s, in Europe, blacking out the chrome trim was the thing to do; probably why several marques in the late 70's came from the factory that way.

I don't think it's that bad.

I think when you do the blacked out trim well, it looks good (see the "bronze sculpture").

Personally, I wouldn't own a "pull me over red" car - but I don't think this is that bad. I've seen worse.

It's all about what moves you baby. The only question that matters is: do YOU like it? If you buy it, will you turn around and look at it and think "damn! that's a sharp car" every time you park it?

Um, 2002's can and some do have intermittent wipers.... and a buddy of mine bought one off eBay that had......

Factory CR 5spd,

Factory LSD,

Factory sport seats,

And factory front and rear spoilers,

AND a factory TURBOCHARGER,

Running and driving for $9750

Can't beat that with a wooden stick now can ya'?

I do drive an 86 528e 5spd (28mpg avg) as a daily and with my relatively long commute I would not drive an E30. I have driven my Red extensively as a daily off and on over the years, and really don't mind it. (Especially with my VW MK2 cloth Recaros and 5spd etc...) I have also driven and worked on many many different E30s. The E30s just don't give me the feeling I get from driving my 1600-2 it's a personal sentimental thing that's hard to explain. You know how I was raised, and know that if I was in the situation to own a nice E30 I would, but it could NEVER replace my 1600-2, my Dad's Tii or 1800 TiSA.....

I fully understand your passion, but while E30 318is's are VERY nice cars and yours is an excellent example, this is not the place to be extolling their virtues. When I want to talk E30s I take it to http://www.r3vlimited.com/ http://www.e30tech.com/ OR for Norther Californian's http://portal.norcale30.com/. I do not waste Steve K's precious server space and bandwidth. There, I wasted bandwidth for gosh sakes.

Oh and Delia, please spell intermittent for me. :b....

And..... I may be visiting some shop in San Rafael to do some work soon..... I believe you know them well. We can talk E30s vs. '02s all you want then. :)

Reminds me of something I just read -- can't remember where, but it spoke to me and I nodded my head as I read it. Went something like:

It's about driving what we love. Or at least what we find interesting. The fact is, I like driving cars that cause me, after I park, to turn around and look at them and think, "That's a cool car."
