Surprised about my M2's weight... and happy holidays.

My M2 went on the scale today. Euro bumpers, full cage with the removable cross pieces (across the doors and rear seat) removed, carbon fiber trunk lid and hood, S14, custom alunimum core support. I would have guessed 2100 lbs. 2513 was the actual weight. I know the cage is heavy and the S14 weighs more than the M10, but I am still surprised. Got it counter weighted on all 4 corners. Anyway, heavier than I thought. Have a very happy holiday. Tim

Yeah, doesn't surprise me, the "E10" US square light cars have a lot of extra metal in them. Front bumper supports, rear bumper and crash supports. There's big sheets of steel glued to the inside of the rear quarter panels.

Don't let me get you down though, a buddy of mine that posts here a little bit has a '74 '02 race car that he tells me weighs around 1800lbs or so. It can be done.

Happy Holidays to you and yours too. :)

my 75 is 2336. stock. full interior, big bumpers, m10, no spare, half tank of gas.

cage is several hundred pounds easy if done right. unless you totally gut the car for racing you will be way over stock weight with a cage.

my fully caged and race prepped e36 with all stock body panels weighs about 2500. i have meticulously gone through it to ditch all extra stuff...down to extraneous screws and plastic bits.

Happy Holiday to you too. And thanks for the round of beer at V&V friday night.

I am surprised at the number, but I am assuming fully loaded (gas, driver, etc) it really isn't that bad. Wheels and tires make a huge difference, but who cares when you have an s14 doing all the work.

My Father's early '72 Tii weighed 2350 something on some grape scales in Sonoma CA at Gran Cru Vineyards with about half tank gas, maps, picnic supplies and assorted kids toys in the car.... I know nothing of the kids toys. :)

Oh, I can't remember if that was with the magnesium 13x6 Cromodoras w/ 205/60-13's or the 15x7 ATS Cups with 205/50-15's.....

So If we add 30lb for a spare and 40lb to fill the tank, then we get 1406lb. What does your handbook give for the " ready for use with full tank" weight? Just trying to gage how accurate BMW's figures are, as I think they are always a bit optimistic with their weight figures.

Here's some figures that I have extracted from various RHD Euro handbooks for comparison;

1502 11/75 2160lb,

1602/1802/2002 10/72 2134lb,

2002tii 10/72 2183lb,

1602/1802/2002 10/71 2073lb,

2002tii 10/71 2183lb.

The extra metal for the bumper supports, etc has been surgically removed. The cage is quite heavy and my guess is that is good for 300 lbs., so if you subtract that, the car would be pretty light. The weight was without driver, but with a full tank of gas and the spare, tools, parts, etc. in the trunk. Anyway, not complaining, as the car is very rigid and plenty quick for me. Just surprised. Happy holidays!

i corner weighted my '68 2002 a few years back . all stock with batt. still in front except for cobra classic lowback seats. with 1/2 tank of fuel it was 2096 lbs with 56/ 44 front to rear distribution. pleased with weight, not so much with balance.
