i cannot believe what my wife asked me about today!!!

Today, while running errands relating to my Tii restoration with my wife, she saw a 1970 Triumph TR6 in a parking lot with a for sale sign on it. See my Tii project blog:

http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,0/page,viewtopic/t,332200/

What she did next...I still don't believe. She asked me if I'd ever restore a car like that for her? I still can't believe the question.

I didn't want to spook her, so I responded just like I would if she asked me about buying knick knacks for the bookcase...I just responded pleasantly, but without much interest. I don't want to scare her off.

However, all evening I've been looking at eBay and Triumph sites...you know...dreaming. I need to find a website TR6FAQ! Once my Tii is finished, I may have to cave in and give her what she wants.

The 1st sports car I ever noticed was like the one in your photo: a black TR3 w/red interior. A family friend had one; it got my dad all excited --- he quickly bought a red on red TR4! (then a Porsche 356C not too much later and then the golf '02, etc.)

Trying to complete two project cars at the same time is not optimal, especially if they are for yourself. However, there are some advantages to restoring two cars at the same time when one of them is for your significant other. During the 2002 project, how many times have you been asked, "What is this $400 charge for?" ? How nice would it be to reply, "That is for the door panels on YOUR car."? If she feels that some of the costs are going for her project it may give you some extra room for your project.

On the down side, this will siphon off funds and time from your project.

Come to think of it...you can't win.

Shelf the 02, build her a car.

Expensive tastes predominate here..

Mine wants either a:

Mercedes-Benz 230 SL (Pagoda-roof)

Mercedes-Benz 450/560 SL

or she wants me to restore a Convertible Karmann Ghia someday.

I wouldn't start the new project until the first one is finished. As far as costs are concerned, she doesn't see any checks, but is curious about the cost of my project...to the point of meddling. The last time she asked how much I had in my resto, I mumbled a little BS answer...and she said, you're never going to tell me are you? I didn't answer that one either, but the answer was and is still NO!

I'm glad to say my girl has simple tastes in cars...the TR 6 is a car that we yearned for when we were first married in the 70's and didn't have a pot to pee in...or a window to throw it out of!

Seems fitting then... a topless Britsh car. It can either go out the rusted floorboards, or, if you can afford the pot, right out the sidelights.

Good luck.

I've seen a few TR6's for sale that seemed to be in decent shape and affordable, but I remind myself that I have to get the M3 done and free up the garage.

I also think that if I had a hot, new project in the driveway that I would be more eager to get the one out of the garage. Too many projects, too little time.

Man, where do you guys find these wives!

Mine barely tolerates my old car addiction, and, after I sold her E30, she put her foot down and said she wants a brand new car, even if it's the cheapest econobox. I really wanted to buy an E28 or E34 535i...

Harry -

Most wives are "accomodating" when it comes to guys with car hobbies. Most figure it's better to have their spouse working on something in the garage than spending time and paychecks sitting in a bar or casino. Or maybe they like the joy it brings when you have a hobby outside work. Mine shares my love of cars (discussing - not working on) since we met in October 1983 while I was working on my VW. If I didn't have the VW, we would have never met.
