Who is the attributed designer of the 2002?

I have skimmed The BMW 02 Series - The Cult Car book and do not see it.

I see who they attribute as designers for the Cabriolet (Baur Targa), the Vollcabriolet, the touring and the turbo but not the 2002.

Something tells me it maybe Wilhelm Hoffmeister but I can not find that.

Thanks![/i]

Funny you should ask B.W.. The 1st design was by me Bill. A touring in fact. I was thinking color was important. Finally production version was a little bigger. Just for you..

I always thought it was the same Italian designer Michelotti Giovanni

Exceptional timing. I was just scratching my head about who designed or restyled my TR6 that had a name sounding like a tire company! Was not aware of the connection. Now I will have to scrutinize the pictures of my dear departed Stag to see what I should have saved for my type 114!

And yes, I am aware the FE02 Karmann was responsible for the TR6, but it was clearly derivative of MIchelloti's tr4.

Thanks Tom, The BMW 02 Series The cult car, attributes Paul Bracq (pag 66) as the touring designer and the site you reference says is Giovani Michelotti.

There used to be a Dutch (or Belgian) website just about Tourings. That site attributed Michelotti as the Touring designer.

I though the saloon was an in-house design.

I bet Alex Von Faulkenhausen had something to do with it as well....Hoffmeister was definitely involved. I truly believe it was a collaborative effort for the design of the new class cars, including the '02.
