think how expensive it would be to replace ALL 6 MUD FLAPS

on the SAAB (also N.L.A) - 1 behind each wheel, and 2 just in front of the rear wheels!

I recall the good mudflaps for VW's are also demanding a high price. There used to be quite a few knock-offs available until VW HQ started enforcing the copyright laws on parts that displayed the logo. Many items were discontinued and aftermarket companies had to change their name (or were forced to go out of business due to the lawsuits).

Low supply of NLA/NOS items = high demand & high price. Standard business practice.

Mudflaps are a subjective topic.

Many folks purchased but never installed them because it requires a bit of drilling - kind of counter-intuitive when you're trying to protect your car from the elements.

I had the same thought about the equally rare and expensive stainless steel stoneguards for the rear wheel arches. What to do when the moisture gets behind them and rusts the wheel arch???

And though I've owned at least two sets of stoneguards and several sets of mudflaps, that's why I never mounted any of them to my cars.

(I'm not counting the mudflaps I installed on my brand new '74 2002 that I bought "back-in-day." It was new, and I thought they looked cool. The car still exists and they are, amazingly, still on the car.)

One other note. What do you do if, for whatever reason, you need a replacement???

D

P.S. I have one final set of these mudflaps here in my stash. I also have a very unusual set of Italian mudflaps.

I guess my interest in mud flaps goes back to my high school days (late sixties) when my buddy bought a V4 Saab that had the flaps...and my folks wanted to buy a Volvo...again with the flaps.

At that time, they had a distinctly European look (at least to me) and I guess that I thought they were somewhat exotic. I never really got over it and I still like the look.

Now drilling into my restored Tii would take my mustering a lot of courage...similar to Steve Peterson when he drilled his roof for an antennae. It would be tough, but if I had a new set of flaps to install, I believe I'd do it for sure.

Still hard to get past the $300 someone paid on eBay...still you never know...

....ACTUALLY - THERE IS NO DRILLING REQUIRED

the mounting hardware consists of toothed

clamping metal cups - onto the extended body seams,

no foul - no holes
