This is a 68 1600 2 owner car. Is was parked is a storage area in 1978. The car is 100% original with matching # engine (1560179) Granada red. Is is missing the front bumper a few very little things. the only major rust is in the Driver side door and front finder. The floors, shock towers, trunk floor and spare tire are very clean. In 86 y/o man decided he no longer wanted to pay to store the car so he sold it to the storage building owner.

Things I have found:

matching vin #'s on everthing in the car

no cracks in the dash

4 spd car

no brake booster, master on the pedal box

Original glass stamped West Germany even front no cracks

All original interior, in good shape, one rip in the driver bottom seat, pass perfect. rear perfect.Interior complete except the center console

original wheels

Original red tail lights

Original paint

small rust hole left of the pedal box, one inch

Hood and nose dented lightly

grills trashed

some rust on rear deck lid (Fixable)

rear section between tailights, one small push, dent

rear center bumper section rusted

any idea what this is worth? Thanks for your help!

The dash is probably worth the most in that car. Maybe it's a west/east coast thing, but at least in the Pacific Northwest, have seen far better cars go for about $500. One in that condition, maybe, maybe $200. Are you sure it's a 68? Looks to be a 67 dash. Mine is 1563805, and it was brought into the states March of 68. It's a good find, but there is a lot of work there my friend.

Agree.

Browsed your Picasa restoration job, truly amazing work. Love the car, top notch everything, without being over the top. The color is amazing.

Might be worth a little more if it still had the barn around it!

Value? As a source of good clean parts for other restorations? not too much $.

As a DIY car you could get back on the road for maybe $1,000 in work and drive it as is? Might be fun...but please, please don't paint those wheels any other shade than the timeless classic of extra minty palisades green. This combo looks utterly smashing combined with a red 2002. I'm freaking out I love it so much!

Save it !

if you were not dealing with a lot of rust on this car, i would value it more in line with $800 - $1200. these early STOCK cars are sooooo endearing to me. clean it up, get it running and don't get caught in a trap of having to replace useable trim with new and you could make it a real looker for a reasonable amount of 'elbow grease'.

save it. and leave it bone stock. they hold more value that way.

Thanks Guys. I got the car home today to make a total of five 02's this being my 1st 1600. I can't believe how different it is. I spent most of the day cleaning it up and putting some rolllers on it. the car sat outside for a few months with the windows down because the guy didn't want to pay for storage anymore. i don't get it, you pay for storage for 32 years, push it outside for a few months and then sell it?

I can't believe how solid the "tub" is. Ya, there are some dented, rusty panels but man is the tub nice. I will have more pics of the cleaned up rolling update.

No worries on the wheels, I kept the wheels! Is that the correct color for those old things?

Wow what a great find! That VIN 1560179 makes is the 179th "US" VIN number. Al the previous 1600's were combined chassis numbers with euro cars. The 156XXXX was the start of official US numbers.

My own 1560847 build date Oct 67 also has a chrome dash and the rear badges above the taillight. I believe that the US required padded lower dash was only implemented on cars actually built in 1968.

Can't wait to see pictures of that brake setup.

Enjoy,

As the others have sais keep as much as possible - the patina of a used but cleaned up old 1600 is priceless IMO.

Sounds like you had the same remote servo barke set up as mine but someone has removed the servo at some point, probably due to failure and difficulty in sourcing a replacement. Here's how mine looks.

some outside pics, I will be cleaning up the interior soon. The glass cleaned up very nice. Is is bad when you push on the glass from the inside to clean it and it pops out? j/k.

Still don't know what to do with it. I am deep into restoration of my Wifes 74.We are in the process of putting it together. My 69 is not all the way done. I need a few little things to make it just right. My 74tii DD is in need of a new deck lid and some brakes. I have a 76 Automatic in the garage I need to get ride of. It is stinking up my garage. The former owner made cheech and chong look like the Jonas brothers.

They're high beam spots actually, and were fitted way back when - I'm guessing the seventies. The yellow lamps were a legal requirement in France back then, so no idea where you'd get them now as the law has changed.

it may be worth saving--does anyone know of an earlier US spec 1600? US spec car production began with 1560001.

Remember, the 67s were not US-specific, since the emission and safety requirements didn't start until 1968. VINs were intermingled with all other left drive 1600s (why we can't figure out how many were sent to the US).

cheers
