CLutch alignment tool is not all that critical for reassembly. If you are in the business, where time is a premium, the cheap plastic or wooden tool is a must have. I keep a trans input shaft for that purpose, but have rarely used it. I have a large flat head Stanley screwdriver. The handle lines everything up just as well as the input shaft. I used it last weekend with an E21 and it was borrowed for a 65 Ford 3 speed the week prior. But even without a tool designed specifically for that purpose - if you have enough access and light, you can visually line things up and if necessary tweak things with an imaginative use of an appropriate sized dowel or lengthy half inch drive extension.
