2002 design philosophy

I have read somewhere here recently that Braq was involved as well and that he was influenced by, are you ready - the Corvair.

Well, here's an early Corvair and there's the narrow C pillar, beltline trim and rounded corners on the round tail rear.

In the later model see the raked vshaped nose.

Anyhow the most beautiful car I ever owned was my Peugeot Turbo wagon, with a great, absolutely fantastic dashboard. Braq did that too, and yes it had a forward raked nose and the (sedans) had a reverse rake to the tail...

Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.

influenced by the first series (1960-64) Corvair (as was the NK sedan). The Corvair was a significant departure designwise from everything on the road when it was introduced in late 1959, with the continuous beltline moulding circling the car.

NSU and several other European manufacturers copied this feature on their cars in the early 60s...many European manufacturers were heavily influenced by US designs in the 50s and early 60s--check out a DKW 1000SP--looks like a 2/3 scale 2 seat T-bird.

The "sharknose" appearance of the NK and 114 bodies might go all the way back to the 1938-41 "Sharknose Graham" but was also influenced by the BMW Bertone coupes from the late 50s/early 60s.

As for the Datsun 510-BMW discussion. Back in 1968, some friends sold their stick shift 53 Chevy and bought new Datsun 510. It was around $2100; at the time a new 1600 was around $2500--not as big a difference as you would think...

cheers

Overhaulin' should do a Corvair with a Porsche engine, 4 wheel huge disc brakes, lowered, sport shocks, wider tires, leather interior, etc. My problem with Overhaulin' is that the cars come out too gaudy. I would like mine a lot closer to a stock look; if I was Overhauled, that is.

Foose could have my car Jim.. I say this every time the show comes on. I would LOVE to see what he would do to a 2002.

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.
