'73 "bumperettes"

I bought a set of bumperettes off eBay and they don't match mine. I have a '73 and they came off a '69. Can anyone help me with what years are compatible with my '73?

I'm newly registered here but I've been following the forum on and off for years. I previously had a '76 which I sold two years ago. I just bought this '73 Chamonix about a month ago and have been working to make it a daily driver. Function and safety first, then cosmetics, like the missing door trim.

First, I'd like to have them.

Second, the '73 are unique, if we're talking fronts.

Mike, I thought the US '73s had the same over-riders as the Euro ones (see my pics), like on my Touring. I thought it was the earlier '71-'72 that had the more curved type?

Mike, if you're really interested in them let me know. Otherwise, back to eBay they'll go -- all 4 of them. It's too bad because they're in pretty good shape. This is what they look like, nothing like what 02Les posted.

If they look like this, I want just the fronts.

So, now i'm really confused on front over-riders/bumperettes.

According to the BMW parts book, and, of course, my understanding of it, the "early" ones in Mike's picture were fitted on all models up to modell '71 & VINs 2585136, 2533172 & 2760629.

The ones I pictured were fitted from model '71 onwards in Europe and up to late '73 in USA when the big bumpers arrived. ie from VINs 2585137, 2533173 & 2760630.

However, there were two "upright" versions also thrown into the mix.

Version 1 available for Euro 1602/1600ti/1600-2 cab/2002/2002A/2002ti & USA 1602/1802/2002/2002A up to modell '71

Version 2 available for Euro 1502/1802/2002/2002cab/2002A/2002tii and all Touring models & USA 1602/2002/2002A/2002tii from modell '71.

The only thing I can find unique about the USA '73 model '02s is the bumper support bars and maybe some additional fixings for it.

edit: ok - although the parts book says the earlier ones up to modell '71, the 2585136 & 2533172 are right at the end of the '72 models, however, the 2760629 is part way thru' '72!!!

Hi,

Did you ever get your bumperette situation straightened out? I have 73's and need the older style you have. Do you still have them? We could trade. I'd be willing to buy yours if you already have the 73's and want to part with your old ones.

Please let me know.

Regards,

Mike

Hi,

I may have already got a line on a couple of early bumperettes. A friend of mine left me a voice mail message this morning saying he has two fronts and will swap them for my '73 fronts. He'll be back in town in a couple of days and I'll see what he has and if it doesn't work out and you're open to a trade I'll send you my '73s.

Regards,

Mike
