What's up with the early 1600 braking system?

If you're referring to the very early "remote" booster system, then to swap over to the later type would be recommended. The boosters have been NLA for decades and rebuild kits also NLA.

W & N had some for sale a while back (rebuilt, I guess?) for something like $400. RHD cars have two of them, so my Touring is now running on borrowed time I think.

Yeah, I was guessing that the booster and MC will go in the storage box with the manual clutch linkage and the u-joint halfshafts.

(nt)

These were often found under the hoods of many 1800 4-doors also with several different masters. Had this set up in an early 6-volt 1600 and was never a trouble, ha! but that was 24 years ago.

Photo while not the best is out of my 1800-2000 factory repair, they have it listed as "brake unit T50/29/2"

p.s. I liked the mechanical clutch.
