Did any late '73 (round tail light) tiis come through with the later '74 style grilles? Say in the last several hundred US VINs to ship? ...or was this an "upgrade" made by some previous owner or repair shop on a particular car I'm researching?

Not that we know of.

There was a period when the "early" nose panels were NLA so anyone who needed a new one could only get a "late" panel.

You often see early '02s in Germany with "late" nose panels for this reason.
