Rear interior panel question

I just picked up a very nice set of door and rear side panels but the rear panels have what appears to be holes for mounting something like a grab handle. There is a large hole that is at the top of the panel just above the ash tray and a smaller hole that has the impression of what looks like it could have been a handle. Does anyone know if there was an optional grab handle or was this a "modification" on some PO's part?

You can see in the pic of the back side that there is a notch in the panel where the big hole is.. l
