1976 BMW 2002 (obviously)

Recommended Posts

Hey ya'll,

My name is Ryan, i'm 20 and this is the first time for myself from start to finish on any type of motorized vehicle. I just happened to land a bmw 2002 which i'm pretty well extremely happy about. I've had it for about a year and some change now and just started the process of breaking down, cleaning, and organizing. Here are a couple pics since it only lets you load five at a time. If you have any tips on how to load more, that would be greatly appreciated.

-So this is what i'm goin to shoot for

A luxury edition of a bmw '02

leather seats

automatic tranny

dampened body to the extreme for road and engine noise

a power plant with at least 200bhp just for a little get up and go

nice project you have there, have fun! if you want 200hp you may have to get a s14 or a E30 6-cylinder, search the archives, they are loaded with info on this.

get a photobucket.com account and upload pic there, then link them to here,

search if you not sure how to do that,

hey, thanks. I'm not sure how i'll get to the 200 mark but i've got the stock m10 and i've also got an m20 2.3 from the e21's(not really sure what i can do with it) but i was lookin to keep the engine around the era of 70's and i might even think of turbo's but thats probably not for a good while. I did see the other blogs though about that s14 deal and i have to admit pretty bad a$$. One thing that did bother me though, as i dismantle i'm also learning from this '02 being that i've just recently gotten into them, is the suspension setup is kind of bewildering to me. Why did they have the wheel hub connected as a one piece with the coil-over. Is it possible, well not that it's not possible, but has any one ever converted to the more modern style of the two being seperate? Most likely there'll be a bit of refab to the way everything sits, but maybe it might bring a positive or a negative to the handling and balance?

This is the stock m10 block, pretty clean huh

The head, this is sadly how I bought the car. Head was off from the block leaving interior open to the elements for how ever how long and the valve cover is missing along with upper timing chain cover

Got some of the parts seperated and sorted and started on cleaning. I finally took my time and relaxed on the pulling apart of the steering system which was pretty annoying. Next I'm going to try to clean up what I've pulled off and refurbish what I can do at home. Maybe some powder coating on the parts so I can wrap'em up and store the them until ready for reassembly

Here is where I could use some advice from the rebuiding pros. Should I replace the tie-rods. If not how and what do I need to do to rehabilitate them. Mainly how do you re-lube the ball joints and where can I get the little rubber boots for protecting them against mother nature.

And the wishbones. Should I re-use them and strengthen them up or new ones.
