Can't wait till winter, GOT HEAT...

today finished my heater box refurb. It took longer than the 8 hours suggested by somebody. Unfortunately it's getting hot down here now and the heat will not be needed for a while. It's easier to work on this kinda stuff in the winter here in the south.

I decided on a new fan from the dealer, expensive but a small price to pay, hopefully I'll have another 37 years before a new one is needed.

The hardest thing to find was the shoulder bolt holding the heat control cable to the lever at the valve. I tried a part from a Toro Tiller but the cable was in constant bind. Thanks to Max for going the extra distance to find a proper bolt to use.

Luckily the heat control valve was repairable, pressure tested and it looks like a new $300 version.

Heater works, it blows and it is HOT.

Congratulations Don. Your heater box looks 100% better. I did the same thing last year (with A/C evaporator in the way). What kind of sealant did you use on the heater box perimeter to keep water out from the cowl area?

I work for 3M and I got a deal.

In restoring this car, almost an entire box has been used so far.

Thanks for the compliment. The FAQ on this subject was always close at hand. The only trouble I ran into was the removal of the control panels. I learned after damaging one that there are small tabs one the back which need to be pressed together in order to remove without damage.
