just a plain black disc

... and the wheel is best served by leaving it like that.

That wheel will 'fit' on any year 2002 steering column..

Here's the skinny on the design:

Quoting Mike in Beavercreek..

"..US 2002s during the 1970 model year (and maybe some early 71s) had a "sport" steering wheel--not the flat one with pierced silver spokes that everyone wants--it wasn't legal for the US market (not dished). This one looked like the regular bus wheel but with a leather wrapped rim, plain black-painted metal spokes and the center cover (very similar to the regular US wheel) was the horn push (no pushes on the spokes). The story goes that there was a fire or strike at the steering wheel factory, and they had to substitute these wheels in order to finish the USA bound cars. I got this story from Michel Poteau..."

Interesting....I had the same wheel in both my 70s and never thought anything of it. Both wrapped in the same fashion.

Yeah, I'll leave it as is, just curious, seems like a blank palette for something though, it's a cool wheel regardless.
