  1. On the underside of the ignition switch should be a little white sticker with the key number; it will be W + 4 numbers (ie W1234). Take that to your Dealer and they can get a key for you. This is assuming your ignition switch is still original.
  2. Maybe you shouldn't! he he. There were/are two different spacers (thickness?) 31 33 1 106 059 31 33 1 113 721 If you check Max's w/site, they are shown fitted to every '02 except the Turbo. Go figure!
  3. Bill, trust me, all '02s had them (Euro & USA), and E9s and (I think) E3s. I call them mystery spacers as I have no clue what their actual purpose was.
  4. According to my parts book it is part# 51 47 1 822 072 Item 8 in the pic. edit: I seem to remember on my first '02 ('70), there was a seal attached to the bottom lip of the door. Maybe to stop water getting up inside? Perhaps that's whay you have?
  5. Yours looks pretty good. Here's a before and after pic of mine. I had new springs & struts (all stock) put on and removed the mysterious spacers from the front.
  6. Wow! I bought one from goliners a few years back. It was right around $100 with shipping. I guess most '02 parts have doubled in price over the last 2~3 years (including dodgy used parts).
  7. What car was it designed for? It doesn't seem to sit too good on an '02 trunk.
  8. Is it because I come from the other side of the big pond that I do not understand why anyone would want cupholders in an '02. '02s are the Ultimate Driving Machine, not a drinking conveyance. he he.
  9. Your '73 was for sale in the Roundel mag in Jan '2002 out of Orange County, CA. It was stated as Red (probably Verona) with a Black interior. Edit: Just re-read your post. Thought you were saying the car was black. FYI, according to the Jan '02 Seller, the car had a "ground up restoration" in 1993. So the colour could well have been changed then.
  10. In the late '70s I had an Atlantik '73 520i. It replaced my '71 Touring 2000tii that got re-ended. Drove it all over Europe for work and much more comfortable than the '02, but way slower. The real early ones did not have the raised "bump" on the hood like the one you have there. Wish I'd kept more pictures of mine.
  11. my email to you bounced..of course i had to make a few guesses at what your email address is....sorry for my ignorance Esty, It might be easier to just give them a call on the phone. Start at 000-000-0001 and keep going until you get the seller or you reach 999-999-9999. If that doesnt work, I'm out of ideas. States car is in Sacramento...area code 916?...that should make it easier...eh?

  13. Back in China until Xmas. Great that some of you guys met up with John. He's a great guy, and should be in the Guiness Book of Records for the longest 2002 refurb!! Only sorry I missed him when he was in SAT when I was home. RealOEM calls it a pushrod...see attached pic 12 PUSH ROD 2 33333428125 $35.45 I do not see where it is called a link/tension strap as you stated. Is that the correct name for this part? Thanks Les for the correct nomenclature of that part. I had my Thrust Rod welded this AM. Are you back in the US? A bunch of us got together with John (AKA HARV on FAQ) and we talked about where you may be now
  14. Factory Parts Book translates it as a Thrust Rod. FWIW RealOEM calls it a pushrod...see attached pic 12 PUSH ROD 2 33333428125 $35.45 I do not see where it is called a link/tension strap as you stated. Is that the correct name for this part?
  15. I've seen those same huge overriders on a few other '02s. Maybe some period aftermarket ones. They seem to be contoured to suit the bumper.
  16. What's with this "demo car" statement?
  17. Hello David, In case you hadn't noticed, this is a forum for elderly BMWs. Why would anyone want a Japanese car? Let the fun begin!
  18. Marco Luiten had it for sale back in 2003. Assume it has sold by now. http://home.planet.nl/~luite011/frameset/homepage.html

  20. Red oil light?? Mine's orange; or do you mean the red battery/alternator light?
  21. I guess we can consider this event cancelled. Hopefully, everyone who was thinking of coming will see/get the message and know.
  22. Car doesn't have to be running, but the ignition (key) needs to be on. Saves you from leaving the headlights on and draining the battery.
  23. If tomorrow is anything like the rain that's coming down over our house right now, I guess it would be sensible to call it off. I can sit in a bar all day long, but it's supposed to be about the cars too!
