I too think you could straighten yours.
You can still buy the '72 type new, but now at a staggering $50 each.
2 years ago I bought a new pair and they were around $22 each.
Interesting.
A few Companies in the UK made serious coin redoing the heads on M10 Motors when the UK switched to unleaded.
I brought my '74 Touring (orig head) over in 2000 and have used (off/on) a lead substitute. AFAIK with no detrimental effects.

The car was owned by another Faqer - "whale", San Diego.
Yep! Was on Ebay 2 years ago and was stated as being in Aachen.
Both auctions have the same pics, so I guess the same Sellers (only_topless & d_csl) or very closely partnered.
I may have solved the issue, I took the mounting plate off the back of the speedo and there was a screw about to fall out. It is a screw that holds the speedo mechamism in place. If was just flopping around when I took the back off. Lets see if this fixes it...thanks for the responses
If not ok, you can also send to Rick Borth, Austin (a little nearer).

He repaired my Touring speedo for me a few years ago.
The figures in your book are correct.
They include cars manufactured in a calendar year at the factory which also includes the Euro models, not just the US cars.
Got to love the Chinglish.
Just prior to the '08 Olympics, near out Hotel they bulldozed some buildings and made a little park. The warning signs for the grass were great.
Yes, I've been looking at that one.
Wonder where the price will go in the last nano seconds of the auction?
There was another real nice '74 Bav on Ebay in Reno. The Seller keeps ending the auction early though.
