  1. Near where the 101 and 405 freeways come together. 9 to 4 Saturday, although I think most activity will take place before 2 or 3 Check out their site http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html Gotta rental car??
  2. My hood will be closed, unless someone request a peek under it. Less stuff to clean and detail. Besides, it is as stock as the day it was built. An 1802 looks just like a 2002, and we all know what they look like. My gosh, I have got to drive it every day, don't have time to get the Q-tips out. Here is what it looks like under there if you are curious...BTW before I get lots of "helpful" suggestions, I have repainted the radiator and replaced the alternator rubber mounting bushings since this pic.
  3. Anyone from Central Coast (SLO, SB, Ventura, etc.) want to make connections to caravan down to SoCal Vintage meet Sat. AM? Dubois and I are leaving SB around 6:15 AM and would love to connect up with anyone between here and the event. Check in here and we will work out the schedule and meet points.
  4. Looks like there are at least 3 or 4 from the orange county area coming up. Andy Wong is in the Aliso Viejo area, Ray Sterbens is in Huntington Beach, Tom Rakestraw is in Newport Beach. Hopefully Ray or Andy will respond to your post. I KNOW you aren't going through Santa Barbara unless you really get lost, so thats all the help I can give you.
  5. Hey Hammer.. Can I call you that...?? This thread actually can be a little confusing, they are discussing three different events here: 1. The SoCal Vintage BMW meet in LA on Saturday 10/11 http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html which we are driving down to early Sat. AM 2. The return trip to SB Sat. PM with some other 02s and vintage BMWs following to have dinner and spend the night in the SB area. 3. An optional early morning drive from Ojai up Hwy 33/Lockwood Canyon to Frazier Park on Sunday 10/12. I can't do this part, need to do some brake work before that run. If you want to tap the SoCal 02 braintrust, the Sat AM meet would be a great place to network. If your car can't make it, I believe I have an empty passenger seat down and back that you are welcome to fill. The most active forum is this "General Discussion" forum. Your intro in the project blogs would get more visibility here. Hammer's intro thread http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,312328/ Again, congrats and welcome
  6. Obviously, this thread fails to take into consideration that it is a REQUIREMENT at EVERY Q-Tip contest, that the participants open up every available hinged component, and then stand around with their hands in their pockets saying things like, "nice Megasquirt." Honest Injun - I swear that 'dems the rules. If you don't "open sez-a-me," the white-glove crew scribbles down disparaging comments on their score sheets and sends you unceremoniously on your way back home, trophy-less once again. It may be harsh, but hey, life is unfair. I'm sorry, did you say four tenths..... There will be NO Q-Tips or White Gloves at the SoCal Vintage BMW meet. Just drive it thru a gas station carwash or hose the car off a week before meet.
  7. Gee, Cris, do ya think this is Bimmerfest or sumpthing..There will not be a hoard of M3s pouring in.....I am sure that there will be a spot for you, even if I have to lie down in the space to save it. I would think a paid preregistration secures a spot. When are you driving down?
  8. Not too off topic....Congrats on your 02. Tell us about it, we love pics too. No, I don't own the BMWs on fairview. I have heard about them, but not seen them. We live on St James off of Las Positas toward the beach. We are driving down to the Vintage Meet in LA early Sat AM. You can join us if your car is roadworthy. We are coming back sat afternoon with a few others following. Email me through the board, we can get together sometime.
  9. I know the street, couple blocks from my office. Will be fun.
  10. If you want to caravan this way Saturday nite (which will be a blast), and haven't made reservations anywhere, (SB usually sells out on many weekends) You should nail down where you will stay. E-mail me if advice is needed. Carpinteria (15 mins south of SB) is a good alternative. It also has some great restaurants. Let me know your plans, and we will come up with a fun afternoon and evening, and maybe even breakfast Sun AM. If you really want to take the HWY 33 drive that they are trying to put together Sunday morning, the starting point in Ojai is only 1/2 hr from Carpinteria, and would put you back on I-5 at Frazier Park.
  11. Go Tourings..... Yes, we desperately need pics Congrats..
  12. I am very excited about it. I think I was the 1st or 2nd to sign up..Got enough manpower for the event??
  13. Oh, he is coming alright.....I'm putting him up Friday nite in Santa Barbara, (cheap wine and lumpy beds) and Saturday unless you convince him to stay in LA. Everyone needs to drive down the coast into LA at sunrise, quite spectacular. Gonna be a great meet.
  14. If you find I-5 too boring, or don't have the time to go through the Sierras, the drive down 101 is a bit more scenic. Santa Barbara is about 75 minutes to the show and it is a spectacular drive early in the morning. If you can get to the Santa Barbara area Friday night, we can find group dinner somewhere, then we can caravan down to LA Saturday morning for the show, and back up Sat night. Puts you closer to home on Sunday. I can scout out a fun drive between LA and SB. Cheaper housing in Carpinteria (10 min So of SB) or I can put up a few of you at my house. (floors, beds, couches). 1st come, 1st served.. There is also a Porsche Concours in SB on Sunday, if you haven't had enough cars by then. There is alway the Winery thing on the way back north. Let the dialogue and planning begin......However you get there, It is an event you don't want to miss. Other Ideas??
  15. Had my license 47 years, you figure it out.... In order of purchase...I think. Hard to recollect, probably missed some. 57 Volvo P444 (1st car) 57 Volvo P444 (parts car) 54 Oldsmobile 88 59 Opel Kadett 57 Chevy 2dr StaWag 68 Toyota Corolla "Sprinter" 67 Pontiac LeMans 2dr 69 VW bus 69 Datsun 510 2dr 71 Porsche 914/4 73 Audi 100 2dr (POS) 71 Toyota HiLux MiniMotorhome 76 BMW 2002 (bought new, still own) 78 Pontiac LeMans StaWagon 81 Volvo StaWagon 85 Volvo StaWagon 91 Ford Aerostar 02 Toyota Highlander (Still own) 74 BMW 1802 Touring (Still own)
  16. Yeah, and Paul is as nice as his car is spectacular...Great people. You will find a few FAQ members involved in the project. Agree with Michael, your car is also one of the more "lusted after" 02s. Did you also check out his Coupe? http://www.38csi.com
  17. Hey Sam, I knew you would chime in here. Here is a pic of the interior of a Golf Touring w/Sport Paket that Rob (2002Haus) sold a few year ago. Here are a lot more pics of the same car. http://www.2002haus.com/tiitouring3420207.htm Hope that helps.. How is my "twin" doing??
  18. How about a westcoast touring get together sometime soon?? Preferably before everyone sells their tourings to someone out-of-state. A special section for tourings at the October SoCal meeting? It would be great to have an exclusive touring meet sometime. Central coast maybe. Cambria?? Gotta start talking about it sometime if the interest is there. There are at least three of us in this thread...Whatja think?? I always thought it would be cool to have a bunch of tourings in Yosemite. Wawona Hotel?? Then again, there is always Santa Barbara..
  19. Great find, Tom. You need to take a little spin up to SB someday. Let me know, I would love to see it in person. Still have the touring?? Which will you take to LA in October? I am sure we can find someone to drive one for you.
  20. Good article on Microcars in new Nov 08 Bimmer Magazine. Should be able to read entire article "online" here: http://www.bimmer-mag.com/art2/art2p1.html There is also a very small article about Bimmerfest with a teenie-tiny pic of Chris Provo's Turbo and my Touring. (Get your magnifying glass out) This should keep this post On Topic...
  21. This is my 76 (original paint) next to the Touring (10 yr old german repaint). Close up of the Touring paint..I am pretty sure that it is single stage. Not quite wienerwagon orange...
  22. thanks guys. i hope to have 8k on it by the time the snow falls. with any luck we will be driving into november I will make room for it in my garage in Santa Barbara, then you could drive year-round like the rest of us in California do. I will pick you up at the airport anytime you want to drive. In the meantime we would drive it "occasionally", just to keep the battery up, of course. Congrats....car looks great, need to see it in person..
