  1. That is absolutly right..I have the German plate on the front. Not legal, but haven't been hassled yet. Haven't had front plate on Highlander since new (6 years) No ticket yet. Previous cars had "fix-it" tickets, then removed it after a while again. If you travel to Vegas, they always stop you at the agriculture inspection stop near Yermo if you don't have a front plate (no "wave-thru's"). They usually hassle you at LAX also, because the parking lots have cameras that take pics of the front of you car when you enter. Got a ticket in the Touring for expired tags (1 month), but the guy didn't walk to the front of the car to see the Euro plate.
  2. Car is really, really looking nice...I guess I will get to see it in person in October.
  3. Hope so....We have enough 02s between SD and LA that they could follow you and pick up the pieces as they fall off.. If the car can't make it, we would still love to see you there.
  4. Looks great....now you must join us in October http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html
  5. I am sure you could spend anywhere from $5K to over $15K, depending on model and condition. It sounds like the one you are looking at is a pretty good representation. Pics and price would help to evaluate whether or not is is a good deal. As you can see the range is broad. Really nice examples could easily get more that 10K. I really enjoy mine, it is a 1802 with 4 speed, but still the most fun I have ever had in a car. My 76 2002 Standard body hasn't moved since I bought the Touring.
  6. Thanks for all the reminders, Joe. I told my Brother in law, who lives in Orinda, to grab his camera and get over to Concord. I hope he gets some good photos. thanks again,
  7. I wasn't suggesting that we go there to race, just go to support those 02s that would be racing there. It is rare that we get a chance to see 02s in a race and this would be a good opportunity to caravan up, hang out, cheer on 02s, meet NoCal FAQers....generally have a fun day. There are some of us going anyway and didn't want to diminish any SoCal Vintage PreMeet events. We can usually just escape one day a month, without screwing up things at home too much. Appreciate all your efforts, Steve
  8. Have you thought about "piggybacking" on the VARA Oktoberfest in September and organizing a drive to that? http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,310044/ Gives us a good destination, Buttonwillow Raceway, and a good reason for a drive. We could gather at the 126/I-5 intersection. Just a suggestion, think about it. Steve
  9. Thank you, that is a wonderful collection of pictures.....and the CARS....AMAZING. Wish I could see them all in person.
  10. Have you determined the hours of the meet yet? That would help in planning the weekend. Thank you for all your work. It looks like the preregisteration list is really growing. It will be great gathering.
  11. Steve, Any idea of the time frame of the event (arrival, Head home, etc). Sounds like a good idea. We need to convince the SoCal Vintage guys to make this event their "September Drive" . Seems to be approx 3-4 hours from most of Calif. LA to SF. Even takes 3 hrs from SB. (Can't really get there from here very easily) Gonna try to make it, gotta fix my brakes first, looks like fun.
  12. Very, very nice car...congratulations Now........I think we need to have an 02 "export" tax on all these nice Tourings, Turbos, M2s, Tii's, etc. slipping out of California to all points east. Then, we can use the money to subsidize our own "Wet" Dreamobiles.
  13. Maybe he will let you buy it from him..... It helps to have that mechanical excellence packaged so well... These cars are so much fun, even a stock 1802, I can imagine what a blast the Alpina version must be. Now you guys need to all come down to SoCal in October, and we will find some more canyons to carve up. I still owe you a BBQ.
  14. Never thought I would be thrilled about Regular getting DOWN to $4.03 around here. $3.99 almost here.
  15. Their site doesn't specifically list the route http://www.bmwvccca.com/ probably because everyone paid a lot to go on this trip ($7200 a couple) you could probably figure out the route, but they aren't saying much. It would be cool to join in with them for a leg or two. I see one car has already broken down in Scott's Valley. Barry seems to have more information in this thread http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,309898/
  16. Sahara! John Your first lesson, Grasshopper.... "Yet it is eyes which blind the man"..."Because a man can see, he does not look." - Master Po.
  17. Hi there. Otis, Rush Chairman. Damn glad to meet you. I've given this a lot of thought. And your new Delta FAQer name is ... Mothball. My advice to you is ... start drinking heavily. I expected a stonger offering from you with a bit of regional nuance - perhaps Grouper instead of Flounder with a nod to Florida. Try harder, we all know you have more. INKATOGA
  18. Welcome...Good looking family....Nice car too.
  19. Very nice pictures, Marc. It is good to hear from you. What does the yellow flag in the 2002 mean??
  20. Chris, If you are asking about the "offset", I don't really know. I do know that they fit my car better that my 100+ wheels. Plenty of room, no scraping anywhere. I think they are the same as regular 02 wheels. Sorry I couldn't be more specific.
  21. The first thing I would check would be the "Idle cut off solenoid". There is a single wire that clips to a small cylindrical part on the passenger side of the carb near the front, down low. It is the only wired part down there. Are all you gauges working? The solenoid is on the same fuse that all your gauges are on. If it is disconnected, the car runs really crappy or not at all. It may have become disconnected, the wire may have broken, the connection sometimes breaks. or, the fuse blows. Fuse #12 Hope it is that simple of a fix...
  22. Good point, Bill. Just today, one of our local officers stopped and told me how much he liked my car. I am sure many of our board members are members of law enforcement also. It is not "Them" against "Us" when a lot of the time "Them" are "us", and your job is really about "protecting and serving" . We thank you for that. If you are not working, plan on joining us in October at the 1st Vintage BMW gathering. http://www.socalvintagebmw.com/index.html
