Went to Cambria for the long weekend (central Calif. coast) Saw a beautiful Inka '02 with flared fenders going southbound on Hwy 1 leaving Cambria around 5 PM. Just wondered if it was someone from this board. looked like David Wong's, went by too fast to get a good look. Steve

years ago my son did that to my Inka, including the beltline chrome strips. I didn't like it and took it all off. quite a Pain in the rear. I think these cars look classier with their original chrome. The black can make them look cheap, especially on the Inkas and Golfs. I even like your polished wheels better than black centers. Of course this is just my opinion. Which I think you asked for... Steve

Trouble with living here is that I miss the caravans. It is a great event, went last year for the 1st time. If we can keep all the "older" cars together it would be even better. The E21 guys are great to hang with also. Check out the Bimmerfest website and look at last years pictures. We are gaining '02 attendance each year. Plan on doing the "road run" if they repeat it this year. It is a great drive, even with some of the crazys in the group. amazing to be part of over 300 BMWs on the same road at the same time. I don't mind becoming '02 Central in SB if necessary. pics of some of the '02s last year....

Maybe everyone knows this but me.. I made an interesting discovery yesterday while trying to find out why both my low beams on my 76 '02 stopped working at the same time. File this tip away for future reference. Whenever just one light goes out, it is usually always fixed by fiddling with the fuses. This was a new situation, both low beams wouldn't work, and messing with the fuses did no good. High beams just fine. Here is the solution.. I know all late models have three relays on the left side inner fender. (little square boxes) the one closest to the windshield is the high beams, the middle one is the horn, and the one closest to the front is for the low beams. The best news of all, is that they are all interchangeable. So I switched the horn relay for the Low beam Relay and "Voila".. let there be light. Horn doesn't work now, but I can see where I am going and get home in the dark without blinding everyone with my high beams. Still Have to get a new relay, doesn't look like it is very expensive. Sure is fun having a simple car we can fix on our own. Steve

First thing in the AM starting when it is cold outside (like it really gets very cold around here) 30s or 40s. The car will start, fast idle, then just die like someone turned the key off. If I turn the key off and try again, it will fire right up, run a little bit, then die again. Once it is warmed up even a little bit, it is no longer a problem. Why does it do that?? Just an annoyance, but a little hard to drive that way if you can't wait for it to warm up. Keeping the rev's up helps somewhat. I'm thinking it has something to do with the "smog Krap", or the anti-diesel valve. something in the warm-up cycle that is intermittent until it reaches a certain temp. No problems during the day, or on warm mornings. Any hints...TIA Steve (tired of hitting my head on the steering Wheel when it dies after I punch it. Nasty whiplash)

See why California is 02 heaven. Quien Sabe step aside, Highway 33 is here.. “Turkey Run II” was a great way to spend the Sunday morning after Thanksgiving. Spectacular California weather and roads. Sea level to 5100 foot elevation changes. Long straight sections, lots of twisties, even water crossings. Five 02s, a Mini Cooper, Saab, M-Coupe, and a 5-series touring. (If you are on Dial-up and can’t wait for all the pictures to load, you can also see them here: http://photobucket.com/albums/y173/alamarlab/hwy%2033/ My trip started before dawn in Santa Barbara with a needed “jumpstart” from Starbucks. Heading down the coast from Santa Barbara to Ojai experiencing a Pacific Ocean sunrise. Meeting up in Ojai with Pierre and his group who drove up from the LA area. Heading up the beautiful Highway 33. First stop to let the casual drivers catch up with the speed demons, before we go up Lockwood Canyon. This is the kind of sign we like to see on the road. Hmmm??? Maybe I can make it at 40. Last stop before some head back LA on I-5, while the rest of us turn around and do it all over again. The '02 contingent You can see why we don’t do this when it might be raining. One of a couple of water crossings. Pierre at speed Daves '02 in its element. This is what these cars were built to do.
