  1. 1600s on the other hand, did not come with swaybars but later ones like my 71, have all the correct attachment points and can be added without fabrication.

  6. Thanks for the insights Jerry. I have a 2006 version in my other car that Curt provided and it's top notch. The collective problem we have at this point is that the radiators from our 'pride & joys' are at an unknown location in CA and Mark has been unreachable since his announcement that the he was out of the radiator and parts business. The original radiator has been out of my 1600 for over 4 months. I finally found a used radiator and spent $100 getting it repaired so I could actually drive my car again. I think everyone is in a similar boat; we are understanding and flexible, we just want to hear the plan for returning our unfinished radiators! Ben
  7. Honestly, I don't like the blacked out chrome--but thats just a personal preference -- I do really like your driving lamps however!
  8. Good suggestion and yes, I called earlier this week. His number went right to VM.
  9. Hi Luis, I haven't personally heard from mark since 9/25 when things were "looking up" I'm completely understanding of life changes but I desperately want my 1600 radiator back as is. -- it's been 4 months! There are a handful of FAQers that have/had work in the queue and nobody seems to be able to contact Mark live - we've had no updates since the his post a few weeks ago. Mark, if you are reading this, please get it touch. Ben
  10. Here is my 2002 w/ 5" width wheels and 175/70/13s - it wasn't off my much but they "looked" a little small. Not sure what it would like like with 4.5s See sizing chart attached:
  11. Not the Oldest BMW out there, but certainly one of the older 2002s with a May 17, 1968 Production date.
  12. Hi Harv. Didn't get your message till 9. Maybe next time? One of my former coworkers lives in a house behind the one that exploded. It knocked the house off the foundation and will probably be demolished. Very sad -- a elementary school teacher and her husband were killed in the adjacent house. The blast sites are now craters. Ben
  13. 175/70/13 is slightly too short. Try to find 165/80/13s -- they are out there. if you want an authentic 165/r13, try these: https://www.universaltire.com/vredestein/165hr13-vredestein-sprint-blackwall-tire.html
  14. Hello, I assume your 1600-2 is a 12 volt car? Also, my 68 2002 doesn't have a resistor, I don't think your 1600 would have one either, so I wouldn't chase this issue.
  15. 175-70s are a smidge too short. To maintain the correct speedo reading stick with the 165-80-13. If you want to be true to the original order Vredestein Sprint + available in 165R13.
  16. Keep after it. She might come to her senses eventually and hopefully you can be first in line. What I suspect happened is the insurance company has offered her a settlement on it and it was lower than what she expected. (had she used someone like Hagerty with an agreed value policy, she would be 100% covered on HER side.) So if you can't beat that number it will probably end up being taken as a total and sold at auction where it will undoubtedly be in a junkyard in a few weeks. Too bad.
  17. I think you should buy it and the white shell that has been for sale on our FS forum and build one nice car from two. Both quarters, door and the trunk is a big job --at least 10k in repairs if you are lucky. I think this one will help others live on. Too bad! $~750 if it runs good and has nice interior.
  18. I can confirm it sold to a FAQer!, (not me) was not damaged by hurricane and will be in good hands shortly. It's a twin to my Jan production Nevada 71.
  19. Hi Mark--I sent an email yesterday requesting that you return my 1600 core that was awaiting a 3 row rebuild. Please reply so we can get this sorted out. Thank you! Ben
  20. I researched the stance thread over the years when making decisions about the rebuild on my 68 2002 and wanted to report back. 68 2002 - 2 dot rear spring pads - IE Stage I springs (all coils, front & rear) - Bilstein HD front & rear - 19mm swaybar front, stock rear - 5x13 wheels - 185/70/13 tires The stance is exactly what I was looking for:, obviously lowered but doesn't look too low in the back. Ride is more firm than stock but pleasant for general use. Handles nicely and doesn't jar your fiddly bits.
  21. They will fit, but they will stick out ~+10mm or so beyond the stock setup so be sure to go easy on tires or you could rub the lips in the rear.
  22. 71 1600s are rare--what's the VIN on this one? Just curious to see how close it is to mine. Thanks! Ben
  23. Howdy! The very first thing I'd do is make the firm decision to paint it the same original color...unless...you plan to do a complete nut and bolt strip and build. Once you have the car torn down you can isolate rust damage and form a plan to treat and fix it all. At that time you may wish to improve sound and heat deadening, as well as treat all hidden cavites rails with an anti-corrosion spray like Eastwood Anti-rust or LPS-3. Por15 around the pedal box/accelerator pedal area can't hurt.
