  1. The aluminum bolt on housing used to be part of the smog pump bracket on early cars. Most have been chopped off, and possibly filed smooth. Very peculiar design. Here is a pic of my 68's engine just removed....you can see what my dipstick housing looks like.
  2. I ordered the Addco set a few years ago for my 1600 (didn't come with any from factory) but the shop I used had a clearance issue and I just installed stock 2002 bars instead. I sold them to Eurotrash here on the FAQ and he ran into some trouble too that may have been a manufacturing issue. If you go this route contact him to get an opinion as I hear it was a rather large ordeal. (Sorry ET) Ben
  3. Here is the link to the automobile article: http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/driven/1004_triumph_dolomite_sprint_vs_bmw_2002tii/viewall.html
  4. Those overriders freak me out. The bumpers on an early car are just jewelry anyway....these monsters did more harm than good. It still has the euro front overriders--those are worth a couple of hundred as is.
  5. I have an awesome set, but unfortunately I discovered after buying them that they were 4x108. Wish I could make a love connection!
  6. I have one door glass, not sure if R or L, both crank out windows, both rear pop outs and a rear window, all green, no defroster from a 72. In Indpls.
  7. I have two green vent windows, two green rear pop out windows and one excellent green rear window (no defrost) if you need anything to complete a set. I may have one green door glass, not sure which side.
  8. The Color of Silver is the same 1600/2002. There are at least two types of early hubcaps and trim rings. The second Picture is my 71 1600 with the optional rings--you can see that a lot of the wheel is visible--my vote is run the rings!
  9. All of these have known success stories, or you can find a local paint supplier to mix you two rattle cans of true BMW Polaris Silver. Finish with Top Coat of clear, from Wurth or similar. Wurth Silver Wheel Paint 1Z Einszett Silver Wheel Paint Krylon Dull Aluminum
  10. The blackwalls on this model are a little busy but they are a true 165/13 tire and look the part on a stock setup: 165HR13 Vredestein Sprint+ Blackwall ~$84 / Universal Tire Co. Tire H Speed Rating (130 MPH)
  11. 185/70/13 is the correct size to maintain similar tire height to stock. Here is my 68 w/ IE Stage I, HDs and 185/70s.
  12. Ahhh Mike, you should have purchased all the remaining supply back in 2008! I have one new T4 wrapped in plastic in a dark cool location in the event that I have a unrepairable puncture. You might check with Larry W. He is also a hoarder, not sure if he has any used in "stock" Ben
  13. I picked up this lightly used stainless roundie muffler from an 02 friend, but I'm having trouble identifying the manufacturer. The tube stock printing said 403 (type of stainless) and "Made in Canada", if that helps. It's well built but the muffler itself has no engravings, stampings or other markings. I wanted to figure out what it is and do some research on sound before installing it as it will need to be welded on. It is several years old. Any thoughts?
  14. For what it's worth--the BMW headliner available from blunt or any dealer for ~$100 is the correct fit/finish, bow pockets, etc. i know this because i bought one and bad it installed in January of this year. They have been on backorder however as of a few months ago. If you can sell these at 200 over retail, more power to ya!
  15. Here is my son, also Rowan, in my 68 2002.
  16. My 68 2002 has been converted by a PO long ago to standard axles marked in yellow paint as "74 2002" -- so in theory, either can be fitted depending on your prefrences.
  17. I shipped an M10 from Vermont to Indiana strapped to a pallet via yellow freight; it had to be dropped off at the terminal and picked up at a terminal, but they have forklifts, etc so it was easy. Door to door U-Ship would be a lot less problematic but loading and unloading will likely be an issue. Yellow was around $200 IIRC.
  18. Thanks for the tip, will place a bid.
  19. http://bringatrailer.com/2012/09/16/announcement-security-warnings-on-bat/ September 16, 2012 Announcement: Security Warnings on BaT As many of you noticed, on Friday we had a hacker attack our site, triggering Google and others to flag us with a virus warning. This problem has now been rectified and security improved so that we can prevent this in the future. Thanks for all the emails and messages alerting us to the situation you are seeing as users. Several of you even work for internet security companies and offered to help at no charge. What a great community we have at BaT! Even though our systems are now secure and operating properly, we had to request that Google and others crawl our site manually so that they will remove their warnings. This should happen soon (possibly delayed given the weekend timing). We just wanted to let you know that we are aware of the situation and have already taken steps to resolve it. Things will be back to normal very soon. As always, if you have any questions, feel free to email us at mail@bringatrailer.com. Thanks! BaT
  20. I have a factory rebuilt engine with an E12 head with a 1987 casting! For some time several head styles were still being produced but then I think they stopped with E12s. Most of the factory rebuilt engines I've seen pictures of here had 87 casting dates. If your block has a VIN that matches the body, then the former owner simply decided to put on a new head during the rebuild instead off fuss with fixing the old one. If your engine stamp is a series of XXXXXX or starts with 20A or 21A or has a something other than a VIN you have a re-manufactured short engine from BMW. Your block may have a date casting too , check under the exhaust manifold.
  21. Obviously, neither of them make their own springs--I think the IEs are made by Eibach and the Bavs are maybe B&G? I have the IEs w/ HDs and I'm very happy with the stance and the road manners/ride quality.
  22. I had to give up on my Ofest dreams for this year because I have an opportunity to go to the real oktoberfest and visit a friend in der motherland, so yeah--gotta go with the real deal this time! Hope you all have fun!
