  1. Hi NKers, I'm looking for surplus rear NK badges of any variety or condition to complete a garage art project I'm working on. Gold or silver, patina is fine, prefer assemblies complete with the roundel attached. Please contact me via the FAQ email system above if you have anything for sale. Many thanks, -=Ben Example:
  2. I removed the driver's grill this weekend to clean out the radiator and do some cleaning and rustproofing down in the lower nose of my 1600. When I removed the grill, there was a very weathered gasket type material between the chrome filler eyebrows and the grill. These are long gone on my 68 02, but with only 47k miles, they have somehow survived on the 1600. They are very brittle and a chunk of the bottom section fell off when I removed the grill. The gasket doesn't show up on the parts diagram, has anyone seen or remember this? I assume they normally fall off over time and don't really serve a purpose. Thoughts?
  3. I found a 1969 penny under the rear carpet of my 68 02. It was shiny side down and had sort-of "sunk" into the tar boards -- I still keep it there for luck.
  4. Sure, please let me know what you have, pics, prices, etc. mobiletradition a - t -- g-m AI -L Ben
  5. If you end up keeping the Supa Novas, I might be interested in them. Ben
  6. Please contact me if you would be selling any of the wheels. Ben
  7. The way I understood it was the US Spec 1600-2s were badged as 1600 through about March 71 when the series changeover took place and these few remaining US spec 71s were badged 1602 until they were dropped from the model lineup. Per the VIN table in the FAQ, there were 232 of these cars produced. I have a January 71 1600-2 that came with 1600 badges but I also have a 1602 badge that I can use when I'm feeling 02 envy.
  8. Curious, is there any info written inside specific to a particular car? Service Book available? The books were missing from my 68 which was from a similar area back in the day. I have a replacement now--wanted to check on your set. thanks, Ben
  9. BOO to that guy. I needs me some embossed trim. In 7 years of looking, I've found one, bought it and it was too far gone even for the pros to fix. In the trash it went.
  10. You need to give me this hoodtrim for my 68! -Ben
  11. What wheel is this? Looks like the early E21 sport wheel with cutouts?
  12. I now have a factory rebuilt engine in my 2002 and the matching numbers 68 spec unit sits on a wooden rolly-cart in a closet in the corner my shop. Someday, I may want to rebuild it, who knows. Very few crazy people (some of us) will open your hood and inspect your engine and vin stamps. 99% will simply admire your strut bar or carb choice!
  13. Yeah, but the family truckster still has you beat by 2.
  14. Nothing gets a green light these days without the notion of a guaranteed money maker, and many flop even after that. The cost of production, people, content and dwindling advert space has pretty much put the kabosh on upstarts, unless they are pure online. Do you think MotorTrend or Automobile make any money on your $10 annual subscription? This barely covers postage. Without circulation you can't charge advert fees. Without the subsidy of advert fees, you have no budget. So they basically give the magazine to subscribers and also hope the $5 each at the newstand blows your mind so much that you subscribe which is the only thing that pleases the advertisers, that and the promise of "readership." Bottom line, if you find a magazine you like, buy stuff from the advertisers and tell them you saw the ad in that specific magazine. I used to enjoy a vintage VW magazine in the 90's -- it was great, nice content, all vintage stuff---turns out, not enough people felt the same way as me and it was dropped quickly.
  15. If you are asking about a tank for one of your 76s, you need a tank from a 74-76 carb model only. The filler neck is unique from the early cars and the location of the passenger side floor mounting holes are not a match. The very early tanks have no provision for a return line, the long filler neck tube also vents to the atmosphere. We need source tank year/make/model and destination vehicle to confirm fitment.
  16. I think I have one....need to look. I think they are about $399 new.
  17. 02Monster has helped me out numerous times in the past, the beautiful front bumper on my 68 is from his stash a few years ago. No problems here. Stuff happens. I recently scored a beautiful set of 14" BBS RA wheels on local CL and took the word of the seller that they were from his old E30. Once I got them home and test fit them on my 02 I discovered they were 4x108. Seller refuses to even answer his phone/email and I got stuck with a set of wheels for an Audi that I can't use. Life's too short to panic over $100 folks. Mike, your post was a good laugh but I really think you need to send him the right distributor or refund the money. Ben
  18. And the Winner is Henning! I've been wondering what this hunk of rubber was for three years! Thanks!
  19. Here is a profile pic of the strip. Seems to fit the contour of the gap between the spare tire and wheel well as shown here, but what's the purpose? Strange that two 71s would both have this.
  20. I have a 68 2002 with a bosch stickered blue coil and no resistor along with a 008 mechanical advance distributor, standard ignition. For very early cars that had no resistor and probably a black coil, how can you tell them apart from later black coils?
  21. In the FS Forum right now there is a nice 71 with a trunk shot showing this curved rubber strip. My 71 1600 also had this flopping about when I bought it but I'm not sure what it's purpose actually is or where it should be installed. My 68 didn't have this and I don't have any expereice with later cars beyond 71--Any thoughts?
