  1. Here is my engine on a HF three wheel with a side mount. Mounting like this only requires one extra hole in the plate and you skip all of the fancy arms. You are bolting into the block with larger bolts and this way makes clutch work easy too. Can't beat the HF price...I'd probably spring for the 4 wheel version next time around as it would feel more stable when moving around the shop.
  2. I'll echo this advice. Since you'll need the smaller diameter valve from an early car (I assume) it might take a little longer to find a good one or rebuild - you can also order a new one from your dealer for ~$125ish. I'd just replace the valve with a little section of pipe that works with the 14mm hoses and just take time to find a good valve. WATER VALVE --- 03/1966 04/1972 --- 64 11 4 474 105
  3. I have a nice ashtray for a long console car. The plastichrome is good, pleather is great, insides have been soda blasted to remove any ash residue. Appears to be tobacco/drug free at this time and smells clean. $35 shipped to USA. Paypal preferred. Email via forum link above to arrange purchase or ask q's. Thanks! -Ben
  4. Here are some examples of the early 68 and 69/70 handbooks. Slight color change and the Automatic model coverage is the main difference.
  5. My 68 was bookless but I assembled one with the correct year from various ebay purchases--when collecting mine I noticed that There are variations year to year for when things like Auto trans became available, but the bulk of the book is the same 68 through early 71 cars. From memory, my 71 1600 has a Owner's Handbook, Service records Book with stamps (this is the book that will have the original owners name, date of purchase, dealer signatures, etc), US Handbook Supplement, Service Stations Overseas book. I also have a yellow battery card, but nothing for the dealer installed Becker or Red Tip. I may have an extra 2002 handbook and supplement from 1969 if your copy is tattered. Ben
  6. I've got a long way to go....and a short time to get there. Wish me luck, interior, bumpers and brightwork are up next.
  7. I've had lots of loves come and go, but my current "other" is my trusty ex-gov 91 D250 3/4 ton w/ optional HD package. Even with the leaks, groans, rust, etc, there is something satisfying about driving around an old truck. The concept of door dings, locking it up or your own personal appearance is completely tossed out the window.
  8. Nice car and Trailer! I've pulled both an aluminium and steel trailer and the aluminum one was hardly there. Steel, ahh 7MPG is good right?
  9. I just installed (What a PITA) a front 19mm - and it is extremely close on the RT side only. My car had a fender on the left side at one point but original nose. I'm sure the geometry is off slightly. I will also try to pull it out a bit and see how it does.
  10. Nick--your photos are always stellar. Keep em coming, love your cars! -=Ben
  11. Hello, I'm sorry--I really don't like this car--it might be fun for 3K but I wouldn't want to pay good money for it. It's been around for awhile--if you grow tired of it, you'd have a hard time selling it too. If you remove the white walls you just have a chrome delete car with so-so paint. I'm sure this is a fun car but not at this money.
  12. I finally sent in a request to the GroupArchives and got some info on the VIN plate I found last year: The BMW 1602 VIN 3980161 was manufactured on May 14th, 1975 and delivered on July 9th, 1975 to Nicaragua. The original colour was Sahara, paint code 006
  13. My 68 has a VIN plate and body stamp but no other info, no steering column pad plates, etc.
  14. My 68 '02 doesn't have a door jamb sticker but my 71 does. When did they start using them officially? Ben
  15. The flange of the 2bl intake muffler on my car was hacked off and it sat on 1/2 width of the original seal and a Weber adapter. Once bolted down with the three mounts, it worked fine. Not using it now in favor of a cannon intake and redline filter kit, can take pictures if you need it. Ben
  16. Thanks Folks! I'm trying to get the 68 finished for MidAmerica in Eureaka Springs in 30 days. I am not planning to attend Vintage this year, falls on my daughter's Sunday birthday again but I have dreams for a quick down on Fri back on Sat afternoon. Too bad I'm 9 hours away. Ben
  17. I bought some parts once that had this label still on them....it was so beautiful I kept and scanned it.
  18. You've sort of lost some of the element of surprise - but you can list them on the For Sale forum and open it up to offers, or just pick a price you feel good at and start there. Someone handy with little hammers will want them! Ben
  19. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel on my restoration project and decided to reuse the stainless rocker moldings as they were in good shape. After cleaning them up with some lacquer thinner I went over them with some low PSI soda and got into what looks like a thin layer of clearcoat. I assumed these were just stainless but it looks like my 68 was coated either from new or by someone in the last 44 years. I went ahead and removed the coating and they look really nice underneath as is. Question: did I muff up a factory protective coating and if so, any harm in shooting them with some rattlecan satin clear coat before re-installation? Thanks, -=Ben=-
  20. This frequent seller/parts hero on ebay has listed a show quality set several times and has not been able to attract a decent bid. I'm with esty..for the price to refurb and polish, your set is not worth too much "as-is" - more of a comical novelty item for a daily driver. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-1600-2002-Tii-Stone-Chip-Guards-/360441531721
  21. That made me LOL....I've always loved wooden boats, especially after a trip to Amsterdam in 2000--if I ever am fortunate to own a gorgeous wooden boat, this post likely will have kept it from the bottom of a lake--thanks FAQ!
  22. I have a reasonably interesting collection of about 60 telephones from the 20s-50s. My grandfather worked at Indiana Bell from age 19 until retirement and that sparked my interest about 12 years ago. L to R: Automatic Electric, Leich, Western Electric.
  23. Bav Auto Cover is nice--I use it indoors only, can't comment on foul weather protection.
  24. try another regulator and see if your readings improve.
