  1. Ah yes, that someone would be me!! - It would look perfect on my 68 2002 restoration! I found an embossed trim piece a few years ago and sent it off to a professional shop and they rang me to say I shouldn't bother...it had been bent in half and looked terrible to begin with. They said it would be several hundred and would still look like crap when they were done. I didn't even pay to have it shipped back to me.
  2. I was getting sub-par voltage on both of my cars, so I replaced the regulators with new 14V Hella units (little black box) and I get ~14V on the money. The old metal regulators seem to "work" but not put out enough Vs on an otherwise healthy system.
  3. Awesome Car! I'm not sure of the exact VIN cutovers on everything but I did observe some little changes from my 5/68 1661250 It has a different emissions label and US safety sticker, Later trunk rods without the black caps on the props, dual circuit brakes. but it still has embossed trim on the hood beltiline, red-dot centers, Flat US spec two bulb front indicators, also no antenna or radio, and a nearly perfect ribbed tray dash!
  4. I have two sections of black rear seat material from an early car. Still pliable and no rips. Should be enough to do two seat cushions. Already off the bones for easy shipping. email via FAQ or mobiletradition a t g - m -a -il. c o - m
  5. my 68 sports dual bottle rockets that scream at anything approaching and beyond interstate speeds -- never figured out why. I'll be curious to see if I still have them now that I have new door seals and rain gutter trim. I suspect I will. Whispering bomb.
  6. As the owner of both, I can say that they are nearly identical by early 1971 -- the only major difference is the slight HP output on the engine and the mechanical clutch. If you want to heavily modify a car to your individual taste, please don't "destroy" an original car, no matter what the species. Second top tip is to buy a car that is already finished by someone else. The go-slow approach on two cars will burn you out of mind and cash.
  7. I'd love to ship my 71 1600 to France and visit Le Foulon...might even bring my wife! Keep us posted on your plans! -=Ben=-
  8. I'm late to the party--were there pictures posted and then later removed? If yes, I'd like to see them too! Thanks, Ben
  9. My white 68 made lots of blue smoke on take off and decel. People didn't enjoy driving behind me. Then over some time, and possibly after my engine kissed red climbing the hills of Appalachia on the way to vintage 06 I started noticing white, especially after long periods of idle--it would billow like a locomotive then burn off. Shortly after that, I crunched it in 08 and just replaced the engine as a part of my restoration. The amazing thing is that engine ran beautifully and made gobs of power. Borderline indestructible it seems. Long live the M10.
  10. I've never posted a "sighting" post before because I live in Indiana, and I know where the other 5 or so 2002s that are not rusted apart live and who own them. I'm in Kansas City for work right now and was returning from dinner with a co-worker and exclaimed, TURN NOW when I spotted this neat square tail parked downtown. Picture is terrible as I was only given about 13 seconds to look but it appears to be a Polaris 74 tii with aftermarket wheels, front spioler and large driving lamps. CA Blue Plate with TIIII as the tag number. Sweet car and certainly made my day! Anyone know the car/owner? --Ben
  11. Accord wheels starting in about 1990 were 4x113.4 so make sure they are from an older accord before you do any junkyard scoring. Interesting about the fit wheels....what about the FWD offset? Ben
  12. This is how I wired 2 6x9s to my Becker Europa Mono, in a series: http://www.ehow.com/how_4886101_wire-speakers-series-mono-amp.html I wouldn't say it's "high fidelity" but it works and nothing has melted down or anything. Ben
  13. What's the year and model ? You might be better off repairing the pin hole and sealing the insides with a kit, but tanks are available new or good used from time to time.
  14. Hello, I'm interested in pictures/more info on the following: --presumably original floormats, tan --a bunch of BMW emblems --2002 emblem Thank you, mobiletradition a-t g.m. a. i. l. c-o.m
  15. There was a nice writeup from a few years ago but the author has now removed all of the photos from his online album so all you can see is the parts list and broken image links.
  16. WTB: Pass Side Trunk Wheel Vinyl "elephant skin" I'm putting my 68 back together and couldn't figure out why I only had two LFT side vinyl trim coverings....then I found my pre-collision pictures from 2005 and realized that the PO had installed a second left upside down on the right. Condition is unimportant as long as its not ripped as I'm dying my used trunk boards and all vinyl trims to match. Hoping someone has one of these in the parts bin for cheap. Thanks! mobiletradition a t - g-m a - i - l .c o m
  17. This interesting wheel arrived on my 68 2002 when I bought it in SoCal in 2005. It has a foam grip and the inside casting marks indicate it to be a VW/Audi part. Some have told me it's from a Gen 1 Scirocco--if anyone knows for sure, please speak up.
  18. I vote we ban Lederhosen 4.jpg from the FAQ. And Super kudos to the Sturdy's.....won't be there this year, sadly. Attended in 06,07,09,10,11 - super good times, about 1,200 round trip over three days. Ben
  19. the head is a 121ti from 71 Ahhh, where is MY head...I was thinking you had the longblock which includes a new head. This is what I have in my car. So you still have the top end of your original engine....cool!
  20. I just redid my flat US spec set on the 68...cleaned out all of the old glue and used a general purpose cement from hardware store...First set of seals lasted 44 years, don't plan on replacing them in my lifetime, so I glued them back in.
  21. What numbers are on your head? (head type and casting date?) I considered a car once that had Xs on the block and was told that the engine was factory rebuilt from 1983. Your brochure looks as old or older...(is it dated on the back?)
  22. if your gas cap is unvented the tank "could" pressurize somewhat during extreme increases in temp without some type of vent. You can always go Enviro-retro like the early cars and route the vent pipe along the tail panel and through a hole in the trunk floor (should already be there w/ a plug in it) Early cars use a cone shaped vent tube grommet - Try (16 12 4 480 140)
  23. I installed one on the donor engine for my 68 resto project. I haven't really driven the car in anger yet but is sure looks purty. I'm using stock downpipe, resonator and muffler.
  24. I have one of Curt's old radiators in my 68 and it looks and fits like stock. It worked so well that I had to ditch my band-aid tropical fan and 71c thermostat because the engine was now running too cool....There are lots of choices out there, but when an E21 radiator with mod is still around $300 for a Behr (Nissens is a little cheaper) why bother with anything but the Silicon Garage radiator?
