  1. If you are not concerned with matching numbers, the Factory rebuilt engine is a good choice and comes with a warranty. Order at any dealer, list prices are all over the place--so call around.
  2. I put in a request with the BMW archives group and confirmed that 2760076 was Inka. We may never know the mystery but I'm wondering if it's tii bits and VIN were "reassigned" to the Verona car Brian had sometime in the 80s? The BMW 2002 tii US VIN 2760076 was manufactured on December 1st, 1971 and delivered on December 6th, 1971 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Inka, paint code 022.
  3. Try the email addy he has attached to his paypal account....bet he checks that one! dastern -- at -- torque -- dot -- net I purchased some lightbulbs and received a lot of advice from Daniel last fall. I can tell you that for the amount of time he spent answering my questions, there is no way he could have made any money on my order. A good one man show egg and your patience will pay off.
  4. I'm interested in rear badges. Email = mobiletradition a t g : m : a : I : l Dot c o m
  5. Thanks very much for chiming in Brian. The pictures I provided above of the Inka car are now 32 years old---it's possible changes were made to get it to Verona but the flares are the big question mark. I suppose 2760076 could have become "deceased" and the VIN applied to another rebuilt car (especially back before everything was computerized) Quite a mystery--if anyone knows the whereabouts or the current owner of this car(s?) Please speak up! Ben
  6. hmmm that's a good lead! .. Was the San Diego owner recent or was it also back in 2004? "Shell only" news is unfortunate however. Thanks!
  7. Hi All, I recently met a really cool gentleman who bought an early production 72tii new, modded it for sport and then (reluctantly now) sold it in 1980. He doesn't know anything about the car's whereabouts and I asked it if it would be OK if I posted some photos and info for the 02 community and he agreed. If anyone has knowledge of tii 2760076 past or present, please chime in below. This was not your ordinary every day tii so I can't imagine that it saw New England commuter duty, but who knows. Enjoy the pics and let me know what you think! ~1972 tii Inka, VIN 2760076 ~Purchased new at Lowery Motor Cars in Hartford, CT ~Driver’s sport seat, Borranis, extensive chassis mods, distinctive fender flares. ~Sold to a private individual in Boston, MA: October, 1980 Early VIN Shortly after purchase: The Esses at Lime Rock with VW Rabbit sibling Borrani Wheels Super Flares! Cool driver's seat, spoke wheel and radio
  8. I tried emailing Germany to find out what the code on my factory rebuilt meant and this is what I got back: Unfortunately there are no records for these engine in our archives anymore. Therefore we are unable to help you. Yours sincerely, Andreas Harz Look up under the car under the exhaust manifold, the block should have a 2.0 and a date casting. My engine was based on a 78 320i block. The heads from this era all seem to be E12s and cast in 1987. I have a thread from a while back where I documented my engine for reference, here it is: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,348734/ For your carb, I'd just put on whatever you like, Weber 32/36 is a popular upgrade at about $200 (manual choke) I have a spare intake manifold already prepped for a 32/36 that I'd be willing to sell.
  9. I don't have any service records for my socal 68 2002 before my ownership started in 2005 so when I pulled my instrument cluster during the restoration I was excited to see this little orange label from North Hollywood Speedometer & Clock Co from 7/1/1971. It looks like my speedo was in for service at 20,080 miles---I'm at ~167K now so what this means is their repair has lasted about 150K miles longer than the original part. I'm sure there are now lots of places to get a VDO fixed, but how many businesses that started in 1955 are still around and are located on the same street? Bravo NHS...! http://www.nhspeedometer.com/
  10. http://bringatrailer.com/2012/02/19/museum-ready-9k-mile-1967-bmw-1600-httpforums-bimmerforums-comforumshowthread-phpt1455851/#more-
  11. I ordered mine from a BMW dealer....they fit, but I don't think they will keep the model badge in place without some superglue as a backup. Without the metal gripping ring inside, they are basically semi-worthless.
  12. Been there, done that -- If you can drive for 60 minutes at 70 MPH on a warm day and not run hot, then 5-6 hours is no problem. I run my 1600 about 4K RPM for 9 hours straight each way to the Vintage.....they can take it better than you!
  13. what trim, what location, what year, what clip?
  14. I have a sub 50K mile unrestored 71 1600 and a 68 2002 that was all original before I cracked it up and I believe this car is a tip-top original example, probably one of the finest left along with Tom's 70 Atlantik out of Chicago. The washer bottle is correct for an early 1600, the early cars have very few underhood stickers: fuse sticker, tire pressure (near fuse box) color label and vin tag. My 68 2002 has an emissions sticker to the left of the vin plate in the cowl. Too many things on this car look correct to be a resto. US Cars made in 1968 have a special 1968 stamp on the vin plate, so I would say this is 67 production, but the VIN stamp is goofy and looks homemade. Need to locate a Euro Vin Table--looks Eurospec (1518898?) Assuming it's a Euro, the speedo has been changed to MPH...but still, not very many miles or kilometers on this one.
  15. I didn't really need one as mine only has a small imperfection but this one got away from me at $299 recently. Hope the buyer was able to use it on his/her project. http://www.ebay.com/itm/110814425392?ssPageName=STRK:MEDWX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1435.l2649
  16. Seems like this one came out of the northern new england and was mentioned in a BavAuto show and shine post a few years ago. I think the price is fair if you are looking for a stock museum car. Unfortunately...this one is probably just too nice to even drive. I would love to get access to larger pictures...the significance of this car is very important and I'd love for someone to document every last nut and bolt.
  17. 185/70/13 - try your local tire store--they often have wholesale warehouses they can contact and try to find you something. TireRack carries Sumitomo HTR T4 and they are still "cheap" for tires. Once Yoko Avid T4s went by-by in late 2008, there hasn't been much for us baker's dozen lovers. If you want to chuck performance for old skool funk, Vredestein's Sprint+ comes in a true 165/R13: Discount Tire Direct has Falken Sincera SN-828 in 185/70/13 for $236 shipped and no sales tax. Hard to beat that price for anything rubber and round.
  18. I don't have the stats, but if you look at most completed auction listings..it's almost rare for a car to actually meet a reserve and sell the first go around. If your winning bidder doesn't complete the purchase, then you can offer it to the next person in line or relist. Option B would be to keep the 2002 and try to find a 2002 freak who is loyal to the marque instead of an eBay stranger.
  19. Some fuel pumps have a what I think is a 6mm hose from the pump out to the carb. Take a look and see what you have and then buy. Any German car dealer will have fuel line sold by the meter. regular auto parts stores will probably only have Uhmerkin sizes.
  20. www.jameng.com has them for $189 list plus shipping and are a nice company to buy things from. You have to old skool call however.
  21. I'm going to go against the grain a little and say that this looks like a very nice car for the money. As others have pointed out, it's an automatic (badge is visible on zoom) and your choices are fix the automatic or just scrap it all and convert to a 5 speed manual trans. The auto boxes are the best to convert anyway...lots of info on this available via search. If it were me, I'd go see it in person, if the exterior is fine and needs no bodywork, the interior is livable with no tears or wavy broken down upholstery and it runs and will move around in whatever gears are left, I'd have no problem laying down $4,500, spending a grand on a 5-speed conversion and enjoy the heck out of it, rare color and everything. ---- But go see it and take some pictures and get a feel for the owner....supermodels always look good in photographs, its only later on that you learn they have substantial behavioral problems too. Ben
  22. I'm trying to help an E30 friend track down a hub and horn button for a Nardi wheel he is restoring for his project. If you or anyone you know has a used hub and or horn button w/ ring for sale, please contact me at mobiletradition A - T GM A I - L -- DO T C - o -M Thank you, -=Ben
