  1. Hi Andrew...the two early roundies in question have the other style hazard switch on the left side of the dash. I think we need to find the correct hot wire off of the ignition switch that comes on with the key in the on position. Ben
  2. Good idea Richard! However, that would require a drive into to the less savory bits of town---they don't just let chrome platers setup shop anywhere! I'd like to try and find the smooth chrome parts if they are available as the yellow plated ones say W.T and 8.8 on the heads. Thanks!
  3. I spent some time searching and found this post by BLUNT from 5 years ago where the tribe settled upon PN 51 11 1 863 827 (E21 Euro) as the correct Saucer Head bolt for early chrome bumper connoisseurs. Is this still true and are they available? I have the yellow plated type (Pictured) for use on the bottom side but I need 4 fancy ones to finish the topside front and rear bumper install on my 68 project. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,57/page,viewtopic/t,284573/highlight,chrome+bumper+bolts/ [/img]
  4. let's kill two birds with one post. I'm getting ready to put a Blaupunkt in my 68 and like your car, mine never ever had a radio, no antenna, etc. I'm using a TuneTrapper antenna w/ 2' lead for under dash mounting and two slim fit Retrosound 4x6 speakers under the dash. I'm not super concerned with FM quality as I also have a DIN plug adapter for AUX input. Thanks! -Ben
  5. How about your dealer? No Shipping fees, and if it breaks in transit, you don't buy. GREEN WINDSHIELD 51311813605 $287.52 FRONT WINDSHIELD CLEAR 51319558352 $280.29
  6. OK, I have answers, and not exactly perfect ones. 51 14 5 480 178 rang in a $5.78 each (flipping ouch)--they look the part but do not have the metal gripping ring inside the grommet, so they fit, but may not hold the 2002 model emblem in place long term. Bummer. 51 14 1 807 495 (shown at bottom of picture) cost .75 cents each, look exactly like the parts diagram. They don't fit through the body holes, but fortunately they do slide on backwards over the Roundel badge mounting posts and hold tight, so this is a partial victory.
  7. That's very cool! Are you planning on selling these? Ben
  8. You need a dome light from a non sunroof car. It's located above the LFT B pillar, near the drivers head. They are available new from BMW, and the used ones break easily when removing (unless you pry ultra gently on the edges, not the middle.) 9. I have this I'd let go very cheap. Shipping should be about $15 USPS FLAT RATE BOX. Make me an offer if you can use it:
  10. Thanks for the reply everyone, these little emblem grommets must be platinum fortified, they are $6.77 each but the ones for the Roundel (twice as large) are .95 cents? Curiously the Roundel grommets fit a wide range of cars, all the way up to the E90 and E60. I'm not 100% convinced they are one in the same....if anyone has info on the availability of the rubber/metal ones as pictured above, I'd appreciate it. Don't want to make a $20 grommet mistake! Thanks! Ben
  11. I tried search and realoem, I'm having trouble locating the correct part numbers for the rubber "grommets" that hold on the rear roundel and model badges for my project car. They come in two sizes, are rubber and have gripping teeth that hang on to the posts. Pictured is my 1600 for reference:
  12. When you go for new rims, make sure the offset is a smidgen higher than the stock E21 wheels--this will ensure that you don't have any rubbing when your future 115lb shop dog hitches a ride in back down to the park. I'd stick with the 185/70/13 tires.... looks good! Ben
  13. I assume you are looking for the all silver 1600 grill for your 70 or has it been converted to the 2002 look with black slats, etc? If you don't care about keeping the 1600 snout clean, shiny and original. it will be much easier for you to find a decent 3 piece grill set from a 2002.
  14. I have purchased both a hood and tail panel raised metal roundel in the last few years....check with Mr. Blunt...he can "put his golden hands" on the parts before they ship out to ensure you are getting the metal ones. Believe me...they are purty and worth it. Ben
  15. [[[found]]] - Roundie Taillight Rear Covers [L&R] like these:
  16. Interesting car, but not even close to my cup of tea, and for me personally, I'd rather have an unrestored/patina'd but solid 02 for a little less and then drop a few bills improving it. If even the slight majority of 02 folks are of this same mindset, you have a very narrow audience of real buyers in that 7 day span, even on eBay. The thought of taking $8,200 probably makes you want to barf, but like others, I think that is about what a modded car should bring in this climate. I would not invest anything additional on expensive upgrades/improvements---you'll just be digging a deeper hole. I have a 91 Dodge Ram truck, I've spent more than I paid for it to fix a floor pan & rockers, AC system, alternator, engine computer, muffler, etc. If I listed it for sale today, it wouldn't bring anything higher than what I paid originally. Very crude example, but just how a restoration project works sometimes. GLWTS!
  17. WTB: Square Tail, E21, E12 Kidney Grill for my wall collection, condition not super important--looking for shabby value items! Ben
  18. Thanks! - I have a second (unrestored) set of these Opel Kadet Rallye wheels with centercaps and lugnuts and a written repair order stating that they are true. Inquire within Ben
  19. Ahhhh love it! I'd trade a decent kidney for those early front bumperettes. Please restore this one......not many left. Ben
  20. I performed this "upgrade" 5 years ago when the rear wheel cylinders on my 68 2002 were leaking badly. Since I was going to be replacing everything, I saw the FAQ how to and went for it. At the time, the FAQ article didn't say that stock 4.5" steelies DO NOT FIT over 320i rear drums without 5MM spacers and longer studs. (The drums get stuck inside the wheel and give you terrible brake pulsing) The brakes work great---a little too great on my 68---and it became very easy to lock up the RT rear under heavy/panic braking. Very frightening experience to say the least. I can't think of a good reason to only upgrade the rear brakes on an otherwise stock car. My car has been off the road for a few years but I recently purchased this Brake Bias Valve from IE and I'm planning to install it this spring. I have a question of my own: Where is the best location to install the valve, directly outside of the master? Racing. This brake bias valve installs inline to the rear brake circuit to allow adjustment of the hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes (reduction of pressure to the rear helps balance the braking of cars with too much rear brake or oversized wheel cylinders). It's very important that during heavy braking the rear wheels don't lock up before the fronts. Valve is threaded to accept standard BMW 10mm x 1.0mm brake hard lines.
