  1. Add my 71 1602 to the list of Ed's old cars. He acquired it from owner 1 in 1987 and sold it in 1999 to owner 3. I bought it in 2009, I'm owner 4. My car was shown and mentioned in the May 99 Roundel article, below. If anyone has old pictures from the time of Ed's ownership through 1999, I'd love to see them! Car has traveled 14K since this article was written.
  2. greetings, as others have said, it will look different when loaded. Now, I suspect that the low positive offset of your wheels is playing a bit of an optical illusion too. What size wheel and tires are you using? Ask any lady on the FAQ, the shoes make the outfit. -Ben
  3. Here is a link to my old post to document the information found on my Factory Rebuilt engine that I believe was from the mid 90s. If you can locate the info from the head as well as casting dates from distributor housing, and underside of the valve cover you might be able to date the engine more precisely. If I recall, I heard that the XX stamps were used in the 80s. I have part dates ranging from 74 to 87 on my kit. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=50&page=viewtopic&p=772812
  4. How's this for sex appeal? The items are out of stock, per the site. http://www.02again.com/?page_id=260
  5. The 02again.com manifold looks the part and is very light compared to a stock manifold. If you are going 100% desmog on your 76, and you don't live in CA or another state that will make you keep original smog gear in place, the 72-73 tii manifold is the way to go. I may have one for sale soon, I'm having a flange mount repaired on it as I type this. The E30 gasket kit shown above with integrated heat shield will replace the factory gaskets and external aluminum shield on a stock 02. Ben
  6. Aw Shucks! That was the debut and final display of those dogdish hubcaps. The wheels I used that weekend were 4.5's from my 68 2002 and the hubcaps were borrowed from a friend. They made a terrible clicking sound after you drove on them for awhile. The same caps do not make a peep on tii steelies! Bizzare! Be on the lookout next year for another new look in the shoe department.
  7. I looked back through all my pictures from the Vintage last weekend, and this is my favorite car of the show...and it aint an 02! (oh no!) I spoke to the owner briefly, he has owned it for almost 30 years. If you look close, you can see some drool on the ground, that would be mine. SuperSixyEuro
  8. Cool ride - post some pics! I'd go 5 or 5.5 but 6 is a tinge too wide in my opinion. Make sure you get an offset of +20ish or more. 185/70/13 tires will work great.
  9. When installing a "second hand" 02 Again manifold, it is wise to just use the standard 02 manifold gaskets or will the E30 w/ shield gasket work? I didn't really think about the shielding--the manifold is ceramic coated. 02 GASKET W/HEAT PROT.SHIELD 11 62 1 723 876
  10. The true rim width probably doesn't include the lips. The wheels should have size and offset numbers on them, investigate and report back. Pictures would be helpful too. B
  11. I'm prepping an engine and there is a gasket between the head and the insulator block for the fuel pump. I can't seem to locate a part number for this gasket although it can be seen on this diagram below, are there supposed to be two gaskets, one for each side of the insulator? Any idea the part number? Thank you people. -Ben
  12. I have these for sale, $100 Shipped -- lenses are great with the exception of the inner melt--not real visible from outside.
  13. Hi Jim - Trapez are now ~$130 apiece (down from $200 two years ago) And the new ones have a nicer set screw that is less likely to get frozen stuck. I have a new one on my driver's side and an original one on the pass side. Little extra money, but man are they beauties. 51 16 1 804 452 51 16 1 807 702
  14. 1600s also have a clock instead of a tach. The original owner of my 71 1600 installed a sweet big VDO tach on the dash..works and looks good. -B
  15. O2Les - yes, I'm looking for one or more of this style in 5.5" x 13" : 6" x 13" pictured above
  16. Hi Jim, good score (finally right?!) You either have 13" by 5.5" or 6" width coming your way. I've never fitted anything to a tii, but these widths are larger than the stock steel wheel size, so you should be OK. There are some small differences in the lips early and late, once you get them in I'd be happy to help you with photo identification. Also on the rear hub surface below all the rust there should be a date stamp, grind away with a copper wheel and see what you find. And lastly, I would recommend 185-70-13 tires in whatever flavor you can find. Sumitomo makes one, but I'd skip the Kumho powerstar, I don't like the look as well, but they are affordable. For anyone still reading--I'm looking for single 13" x 5.5" width Cosmic to complete a set for restoration, if you have a partial set in the barn, please contact me. mobiletradition | gm a i l -Ben
  17. OHH, that is sweet, 100 miles from home and I have a pickup.....but....$675 will buy a lot of old BMW parts I need. -Ben
  18. i doubt big bumpers would have saved the car, maybe a little bit less crunch but crunch none the less. good luck in fixing it. Wanna know what happened to the other car who hit me? Nothing.
  19. I would be willing to share my mechanical work experiences offline. mobiletradition at G M A I L Ben
  20. ...I got popped, saved it from the crusher and now I'm finally getting it fixed! Reggie's Motorworks of Westfield, IN will be handling the initial metalwork and mechanicals, paint will follow this summer, and reassembly will begin in the fall/winter. Goal is to have it finished by the Vintage 2012. http://reggiesmotorworks.com/ UPDATE 6PM EASTERN - DAY 1
  21. I'm wondering if your front panel is from a NK Sedan, not a 2002 PN 41335780104 ?
  22. The E39 wheels look purty but have the incorrect (too large) hub bore size and will not be hubcentric. You may find a spacer kit, but there are lots of choices that fit well without the fuss. One of my faves are the 7 series wheels from a E32.
  23. I tried to buy one a few years ago out of the UK 02 site but it sold quickly to a local buyer---way expensive. Someone by this and reproduce!
  24. Depending on your spending preferences, I have a beautiful set of FORGED 16" 850i STYLE 9 wheels in my reserves that I'd consider parting with for the right price. No tires. 2 rights and 2 lefts. Vintage delivery OK. This is a google swiped example image only, but mine look identical: This is a shot of what they would look like on an E28 (Gorgeous E28 belongs to a sales rep at local dealership, I believe)
