  3. Hi Aaron, It was great to meet you last year (September?) for the back seat transfer of ownership sale and coffee. I hope it worked out for you. Your car looks great! Will we see you at "The Vintage?" this year? I'm leading a small troupe from Indianapolis early Friday AM if you are interested in tagging along http://atthevintage.com/ -=Ben
  4. This is what I could find--I have no idea if this is what you are looking for, the top pipe is new. Let me know thanks, -Ben
  5. I might have this in my stash, I'll dig & post a pic ASAP.
  6. Unless the car has been in your family, you have the Service manual still with your owner's handbook or purchase records, there is no really good way to know--unless you live in BFE and you know your car has spent it's entire existence in BFE--your car probably came from the only dealer around, not just the closest! Per my service book, my 71 1600 was sold new on 8/3/71 by H.A. Boyd, Inc in Lebanon, PA. The initial inspection and 600 mile service stamp indicates that they were (and still are) primarily a VW dealer. http://www.haboydvw.com/ The 4000 (12/15/71) and 8000 (6/20/73) mile services were performed by Barr Motors, Inc. in Wiliamsport, PA - not sure if these guys are still around, but would LOVE dealer frames for either. I have no stamps past this date but know it was serviced at Cumberland Valley Motors in Mechanicsburg, PA from 88-99 while the car was in owner Ed Ullom's collection. --Ben
  7. Keep selling man, and buy my Opel wheels....I make you special price. -Ben
  8. My method: set oven to 200f put cap in oven for about 5 minutes (makes a little stank) wear two oven mits--remove cap, use small pocket knife to pry up a corner and then a wooden Popsicle stick to pry around the remainder---the glue will turn dark yellow/black and fully come off with a soak in goofoff. Do this only when your wife/girlfriend/husband/domestic partner is out for a few hours. -Ben
  9. Steel 5”x13” Opel Kadett Rallye wheels - Perfect fit and a period match for a 2002/1600. These are the earlier version, not the later GT wheel that had 4 clips riveted on to hold a huge centercap. These are the real deal. For an example of what these look like on a 2002, take a look at my Nevada 1600 down below wearing another set that I refinished a few years ago. I've also recently spent $80 getting these wheels checked out before putting them up for sale to ensure that I'm selling a quality used set of wheels. Buy with confidence. $375 +FedEx Shipping Wheels are boxed and ready to ship, or I can hold and deliver to The Vintage in Winston Salem in May Email for more information or to make purchase arrangements = mobiletradition | G M A I L Full Photoablum: http://tinyurl.com/4k4mljz Wheel Specs and Other Info: --Manufacturer: Lemmerz (Also an Original wheel supplier to BMW) --Production Date: 2/1969 (Matched Set) --Size: 5”x13” --Weight: 12.75lbs --Offset: 28mm --Finish: Two are poor respray over original silver, two appear to be original finish --Condition: All four wheels have been inspected by a professional wheel shop and are true. 12. Mike--that's it, you solved the mystery. The FAQ has banned all use of apostrophes in subject lines. Thank you!
  13. I have this great passenger seat from a 72 and I'd like to find a mate in similar condition if possible. Let me know what you have, and I'll be at the Vintage for direct pickup if that helps. (I know these are a pain to pack and ship safely.) I'm not super interested in shredded seats Ben
  14. Perhaps we are being censored by the government. Too much free photo speech. -=Ben
  15. The past two times I've tried to post messages with photo links, the preview works, but when I hit submit, I get this error--what am I doing wrong? I tied different computers and Firefox vs IE and got the same result. General Error Error in posting DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1064 You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near 's seat from 72 (ish)', 372, 1302891750, 17, 0, 0, 0, 0)' at line 1 INSERT INTO phpbb_topics (topic_title, topic_poster, topic_time, forum_id, topic_status, topic_type, topic_announce_duration, topic_vote) VALUES ('WTB: Black Driver's seat from 72 (ish)', 372, 1302891750, 17, 0, 0, 0, 0) Line : 318 File : functions_post.php
  16. I have the stock 4 speed in my 71 but I did swap the diff down to a 3.64 .. Is it slow? - well yes, but at least interstate speed is now below 4K RPM. My main complaint on the 1600 is the mechanical clutch. Compared to my 68 2002, the clutch operates more like an on-off switch. I've adjusted it numerous times and when I find the sweet spot, the pedal won't always return on its own. Frustrating. -=Ben
  17. Hi Luis, I'm leading a small group of 4 cars (71-1600, 78-E21, 73-tii and a E30Baur) from Indianapolis. If you or anyone else wants to overnight in the metro Indy area, you can join us for a ~6:30am departure will arrival into Winston-Salem late Friday afternoon. -Ben
  18. AndyS -- I just FedEx ground shipped a set of aftermarket 13x5.5 alloys with tires and the shipping weight was just under 130 LBS. If you go this route, you must ship to a business address and the box height must be under ~34" or you will get socked with a huge weight/size penalty. Your results may vary, subject to distance, etc. Ben
  19. This is a good deal for someone who wants a set of early alloys "ready to go" Normally when you find a set of original ones, they are crusty, have missing center caps (these are over $40 each new) bad metal valve stems and no tires. GLWTS!
  20. Very cool car, and a cool story. Keep the updates coming, this is good reading! -=Ben
  21. Scott you are a genius--only you could bring us a Bavarian Hooters to Old Salem. Time to bust out your Lederhosen. -Ben
  22. When I brought my 1600 home from RI, (no titles issued over 10 years old) I had a hard time getting it registered. I followed all the rules and had the RI paperwork for the no title status and a legit bill of sale but my home state's computer couldn't find a model 1600 in the database, so they forced me to put 'Model Unknown' on the title and registration. "are you sure its not a 6 series?" is what the old gal asked me. I was told I can petition the state, but probably not worth the effort. Good luck.
  23. I'd rather have your day job. Very cool. -b
