  1. These SIGNET SB-702 tires were installed by coupeking in 2005 just before the purchase of my 68 2002. I used them for about a year and removed them when I restored the wheels and I ended up using a different tire size. I think these are a tad small for a 2002, (175/70/13) but I know several FAQers are running this size. There can't be more than 3,000 miles on these tires. I can package in a large box and Fedex, or strap two together for shipment. I'm open to offers, I'd like them out of my closet and back on the road somewhere. esty--need these as credit towards a trunk mat? email via forum or mobiletradition A t GM ai l
  2. mike they are cut to fit without the hard board side panels....the boards on most cars are long gone so i made an assumption when making these...come to think of it, i've never made a mat for a roundie where anyone brought up the side boards and no one's ever complained that they didn't fit i made my patterns and test fitted them to my 69 for roundies and my 76 for square tails Hi esty, I've been meaning to ask you about making a trunk mat in light grey to use in my 71 1600. I don't have side panels in this car but it does have the trunk floor panels with the wood strips at the edges. I made a travel trunk mat for my 68 a few years ago out of inexpensive oil mat and it does not fit the 71. The dimension on the tail light side is 52" and it tapers to 53" on the wheelhouse side. I suppose I could make some patterns and send to you? Let't talk at some point--I'd like to have something before the Vintage in May.
  3. I have these that were removed from my 68 (pictured) only because I hit the jackpot back in 2006 and found some NOS ones that were "quasi-affordable" The L & R early deep bucket grilles are just like the 1600 grilles but the slats are painted Black. This set has new reflectors and the kidney has good studs. I'm asking $275 for everything shown. Email me with questions.
  4. The ones pictured above are junk...now...these below are 75% better, but still not as good as the 2002 LED conversion kits being offered now from one of our own: http://stores.intuitwebsites.com/hstrial-2002s/StoreFront.bok For some temporary coverage on my car for the 2010 driving season (I have the kit from 2002s.net now), I installed these in place of backup light bulbs and ran jumpers from the positive on the brake light using a double connector adapter (radio shack) to give myself extra brake lights (and you can't see them thru the clear lens, but they light up red) Downside, you have no backup lights but they help for less than $15...pedestrian safety experts please look away.
  5. In January 2009 I was shopping and found this really nice 68 Derby 1600 (listed as a 69 at the time) for sale in New Hampshire and after a few email exchanges with the owner, it sold quickly before I could fly to see it. (listed for $10K). It was reported to have 36,000 original miles and a two owner car, owned first by a doctor in Pittsburgh, PA through 2000 when he passed. The VIN is 1564101, anyone here end up with this car? I have nice interior pics but only these very small craigslist exterior shots. Where in the world is this beauty now? Did it stay in the northeast?
  6. The shop I use recommended aluminum oxide, they came out looking good. I had to file down some burrs with a fine file, once painted, they looked awesome. I did a matte topcoat in clear, BTW.
  7. Cool wheels. I restored a similar set last year, this was my process: #1, check for bends, have straightened if necessary. #2, blast them with something that won't harm the aluminum (no sand) #3, Etch Prime and paint, (do it yourself in or pay a shop for 090 Polaris) #4, Hone out the center bore back to bare metal (the center caps wont fit with the new paint layers) #5, bake the center caps for 10 minutes on low heat (while your wife is at the mall) wear hotpad holders on your paws and pry off the roundels with a pocket knife, use adhesive remover on the old glue, clean, polish (steel wool works well) #5, buy new stick on roundel emblems for the center caps, (reinstall caps later with a fine layer of anti-seize compound.) #6, buy new alloy style lugnuts, Coupeking has a nickel burnished set, others have the plated ones with the chrome cap, don't worry, they all rust over time--but the better quality ones will look better longer. AutohausAz sells them, Blunt can get the BMW ones, they are more expensive however. #7, buy and install new metal valve stems, get them from blunt or the dealer. (try your luck at the old ones, new cores are available from BMW too.) My tire installer could not find a suitable rubber stem, the metal casting is too thick, so I got new ones. #8 Get some 185/70/13 tires installed (sumitomo seems to be the popular choice) #9 Wholla--and hope that you spend less than the cost of a new reproduction set from BMW Classic! #10 These might not fit over a front big brake upgrade, keep this in mind. Enjoy! -=Ben
  8. Hi KC - I emailed you via FAQ about the radios yesterday, didn't hear back yet--are they still available? -=Ben
  9. Ben's car is even better in person and has lots of neat details like the old service station stickers in the door jamb. Ben - are you coming to The Vintage in NC this year? Thanks jgerock! Yes, I have a room booked for Vintage - This will be my 3rd time to bring the 1600, will be running narrow steelies and dog dish caps this year...my goal is to come each year with new shoes. I have something lined up for 2012 in progress, looking for a special wheel project for 2013! Back to the BJ Car--OK, the pictures from above must be the catalog shots that would have deadlined some time ago, this looks to be the way it looked as it rolled across the block today (snagged shot from the FAQ FS forum)....I'm assuming they fixed the nose and added emblems, ditched the whitewalls, etc. No diss on the seller, I applaud him for his sale, just not sure we are looking at a 17K car....ahh the magic of BJ! I suspect we will see this one again, at a dealer, for about $23.5K
  10. Looks like someone stole the radio, speakers Rt side mount antenna and rear emblems? AND, is that not visible damage to the nose panel? Grill fitment looks odd...
  11. Thanks for the kind comments guys! This one was for sale for 7 years off and on before I found it tucked away in a rhode island garage in Dec 2008! I found an eBay listing print out in my paperwork from 2006 where it bid up to about $2,300 with the reserve not met. This one will be on the market....when I DIE and if my kids don't want it because gas is NLA. -=Ben As Found: Notice the stance with the original spacers still in--not too groovy
  12. Good Golly. My garage find 1600 with 45K in the ticker must be worth at least $90K Well, perhaps deduct 75K because its only a 1600.
  13. This is 100% not BMW related, but a real cool fellow I work with built up this tuning rig for a 434 EFI Small Block Chevy he rebuilt - and the level of detail is astonishing. This engine is now back in his C4 Corvette and ran 11.5 et @124.5mph - on pump gas this past October. Enjoy the video!

  15. Hello, if I can somehow verify that the clutch kit is correct for a 215 MM flywheel, I'll take it. Does the TO bearing have any part numbers on it? (does it appear to be new or used?) I didn't see your email addy listed, what's the best way to reach you? Thanks! -=Ben
  16. Hi Andrew, I spotted this nice tii in Southwest Harbor last August...is this you or do you know the owner? I was staying at an inn across the street but never saw anyone nearby.
  17. Are there any true differences between 215mm Sachs clutch kit PN KF13701 or KF13702? 01 is for the 74-76 2002 02 looks like it is slated for the E21 and E30 M10 variants 02 is ~$50 cheaper and based on an archive search, it looks like the later one will work fine, just looking for an extra opinion. Thanks!
  18. Enjoy it while it lasts! I paid $1,150 for a quarter panel in May 2009 and the price has been slashed to $898. Time to stock up! -=b
  19. Cool Man! I have the same wagon, same flavor (10/'05) w/ 6 speed. Nice looking pair! -=Ben
  20. Howdy--not sure if you noticed, but the parts are shipped from Canada and it will take significantly longer than a domestic package. I also purchased a small item from Edward and it shipped when he said it did, it just took 3 weeks for it to arrive via standard mail. I had no problems with email communications, btw. -=Ben
