  1. Come to think of it, this car would be such a great value for the budding enthusiast, especially since it comes with both the racing guide, and a hi-perf racing guide.
  2. OK, I'm lost--it sounds like he/she had a new 320i motor installed? The descriptions here sound very exotic....seller if you are on the FAQ, please fill us in. I wonder if this one just went kablamo and got a new shortblock when under warranty? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300494375028 So what makes this car special? Well, in 1978 BMW offered a BRAND NEW (not rebuilt) Shortblock as a factory installed option, which this car recieved This increased the HP, and rev capacity due to a sturdier crank bearing design and wider coolant and oil galleys. Subsequently the engine has a rev capacity far higher than its counterpart. The engine has 7,500 Miles on it and turns over instantly. From the tranny back the car has 12,739 miles.
  3. I dug through the archives and saw that the late Dan Erwin's "Crusty" was 1660495 - So you have that car beat--sure do miss Dan's writing in the Roundel. Everyone wants to know how old Crusty is, but, like any hard-workin’ cowboy, Crusty’s outdoor life belies his age. Crusty looks 130, but he’s a mere sylph of a Bimmer at 34. I explain that he’s a 1968—the oldest sunroof 02, to my knowledge, imported into the U.S. http://bmwcca.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=867&d=1220668283 http://bmwcca.org/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=866&d=1220668283 -=Ben
  4. Cool Deal man. I believe there there was a Chamonix 68 on Craigslist "Bama" for $400 a few weeks ago - looked like a parts car, but looked complete. Cant find it anymore however I have 1661250 May/68 and it needs some body restoration due to a rear collision. Can you give details on your shop? Examples of past work? Thanks, Ben

  9. My DD is a 5er wagon and I must say--I love this thing and I want it. Per the VIN shown by the auction house, it is a 6/80 production 735i. Interesting. here are some pics of the same car "back in the day" compared to now. Awesome 02 taillights! Chassis number 7432544 Vehicle code 6841 Series E23 Model 735i Body type saloon Catalog model ECE Production date 1980 / 06 Engine M30 Transmission Automatic Steering Left Catalyzer NONE
  10. In that case, I think I can get by with tires from a powerwheels toy...I think I've eclipsed 80MPH once in my 1600, downhill in a swift breeze, drafting a semi. -B
  11. Agreed, $80 a pop is a little more, but I'm having a hard time with the notion of "primewell" or "powerstar" - I currently use AvidT4s but I'm planning to move them to a set of Cosmics I'm restoring and keep the vintage skinny tire look on my 1600. Tire prices are going way up. Runflat's for my MILs E60 sport are $350 EACH!
  12. I'm looking for opinions on the 165TR13 Vredestein Sprint+ Blackwall Tire as I'm considering them for my early alloy 5x13" wheels. Thanks!
  13. NM/NA 1969 BMW 1600 - $4500 san luis obispo (MORRO BAY) http://slo.craigslist.org/cto/2049452205.html Reply to: sale-jvxga-2049452205@craigslist.org For sale is a very original 1969 BMW 1600 bought in Germany and imported to California by a german lady who married a sailer in San Diego. Has low miles, and everything works. Has rare sunroof. Can call me at (805)909-7222 thanks.
  14. I work from home in an office above my garage and my plain white walls are a real snoozer--I grabbed my early color brochure and went to Lowes to have some custom Nevada and Colorado mixed up. The main color will be Nevada in honor of my 1600 and one wall and staircase will be Colorado.
  15. I have a BMW literature packet in my collection from 1968 including a brochure, euro delivery information and this great price list from Archie D. Walker, JR. Motors in Wayzata, Minnesota. At the time they were the Upper Midwest Distributor for BMW and NSU automobiles and a Dealer for Mercedes-Benz, Rover and Land-Rover!
  16. NM-NA! http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/cto/2024105726.html
  17. Cool--mine was built in May 68--yours was probably towards the fall? I wonder when the cutoff date was for the extra "1968" stamp? Mike Self, what say you? (did it have something to do with distinguishing the 67s from 68s due to the new US federal regulations?)
  18. Far Out! I also have a 68 2002 in Chamonix, vin 1661250...what is your vin/color combo? -Ben
  19. Looks like these are hot with the VW crowd. I'm sure it would look cool in an early 1600 or 02 if you didn't care about the whole lack of FM thing.

  22. I just did this and used yellow freight www.yrc.com "terminal to terminal" The freight class is 85 and the shipping weight on a half size pallet was 300 pounds. My engine had a clutch and intake manifold installed, but no exhaust manifold or starter. They also have a First-Time Shipper discount of 60% -- if you call them at 800-610-6500 with the zipcode of where it is, where you will pick it up, the approximate dimensions and weight, they will give you a quote over the phone. (or you can do it online) Beware, they might try to add a delivery notification fee, ask them to waive it since you will track the arrival online. The only kicker is that your seller would need to be able to build a wooden box or a stand to strap and wrap to a pallet AND have the means to get it to the terminal, and you would need something to haul it on when it arrives (they will load it on your vehicle with a forklift) If you need pickup and delivery with gate service--it will cost you bigtime. if you are willing to roll the dice and need door to door, try uship.com. Good Luck!
