  1. This is what my car looked like in 2006 on 175/70/13s, stock springs and KYB shocks. I think I have 2 dot rear pads. My goal for this car, once the crash damage is done is a road trip/auto tour car, maybe an autocross, etc. I've always been happy with the stance of the early 68, but to make it handle better I was considering the following setup: -6x13" Cosmics with 185/70/13 tires -Ireland Stage I springs -Bilstien HD shocks -Fixed front camber plates -Slightly beefier swaybars What I DON'T want is to end up with the rear lower than the front. Anyone running a similar setup, how does it look? Any pics? (And for all the haters, I did search first and saw the stance thread from 2009, and no, that's not my house, it's my pool house.) Thanks! -=Ben

  3. Drat. I suspect that the block was a 68 2 litre and the head was cast in 72 and some knucklehead made the assumption that the whole kit was from a 72. Good luck with the return situation--I'd try to find someone near you that has a running engine in a parts car or a good stock engine that was pulled for a swap. I recently gambled on a used engine too...I won't know anything until I hit the starter... -=ben

  5. Hi Gals and Gents. I recently sourced a used factory rebuilt engine and I wanted to get some thoughts on the configuration and document for FAQ reference what I found/have. I've heard about some older factory rebuilds having the VIN show as XXXXXX and the more recent examples have bar codes and DOT-R stickers. This one is from the mid 1990s I think. My plan is to install this engine in my 68 2002 and rebuild the tired engine at some point down the road. It has been in storage for ~8 years and came out of a 73 rear end/totaled restored car in New Jersey. Did this belong to anyone here? --Block VIN/ID: 21 170 ZA 10 0 (78 cast on side of block, probably from a 320i, 2.0 litre originally) --Head: E12 87 Cast Date --Single Row Timing Chain --Camshaft ID: 121061 0080 (what is it?) --Valve Cover - Interesting Roundel treatment, cast 81-82 --Distributor Mount: 85-86 Cast Date --Oil Pan: Different drain plug design than I've seen before?

  8. Is it this? - if yes, I'm asking $30 and will be fair on shipping. BTW--yes, it is dirty from 20 years of storage but will clean up well. I can clean it and take another pic if needed. -Ben
  9. ToddK (above) made a pickup with the seller (Walter) and I think everything is in progress at this time. Not sure if you know the seller, but I bought some wheels he used to run on a tii. Thanks for the offer! -=Ben

  11. Welcome to the 1600 club! BTW, Mike can probably correct me if I'm wrong but I think the VIN you gave corresponds to a 1969 build date? Not uncommon I hear if it was a dealer leftover/owned/untitled car until 1971. 14. I purchased this a few years ago on ebay as a NOS 2002 item and when it arrived I spent so much time marveling at the beauty that I didn't realize until several months later that it is not plumbed correctly for a US spec car. Does anyone know what model this was actually used on, and where can I get some new gold clamps to replace the two that are missing? Also, what would it take to use this on a 1600 or 2002? Thanks, -Ben
  15. My 68 2002 (5/68 Production) has a longneck diff and a rear swaybar. My 71 1600 (shortneck) had no swaybar, but I added one because the mountings were there already. The question: do all early shortneck diff subframe cars have the provision for the rear bar since the early 2002s had it? Was it simply an option on 1602s? -Ben
  16. I've been working with a guy for a few months to try and buy a set of 4 wheels, but I'd like him to remove the tires at my expense and box them. He is having trouble finding the time to get this done for me so I was wondering if anyone nearby would be interested in helping me out and making a few bucks along the way? This is what I'd need: Pick up a set of 4 wheels and tires from the seller in North Marshfield, take them to a tire shop for tire removal/disposal, pack all 4 wheels in a cardboard box and drop them off at a location that accepts prepaid Fedex packages. I have a Fedex account and would send you a pre-paid label to attach to the package. I'm willing to compensate you for your time and assistance as well as cover the complete tire removal/disposal fees. If anyone is nearby or visits this area frequently, please reply here or email me direct at mobiletradition a t g m a i l Thanks! Ben

  18. Oh sweet goodness, please say it is this one--put me on the wait list if the other guy backs out!
