  2. I'm in the process of purchasing a used engine and I'm having trouble estimating total freight weight. Has anyone shipped a crated longblock recently and have any details on the shipping weight w/ or without a shipping container? No starter or exhaust manifold but it does have an intake manifold and clutch installed. Thanks, Ben
  3. I have a 1972 Harness (non-tii) that was removed and has been in storage for 20 years. $75 Shipped - mobiletradition at G MAIL

  5. Do as CD suggests or call Kingsborne directly and tell them you want the wire set (early or late, coil wire is different length) and that you want them to add the loom on it before sending. I had a problem with mine, the second wire from the distributor was too short--they used the wrong length--so I had to ship it back to have it re-made. tell them you are aware that this is a possibility and you want to ensure that the wire lengths are correct. I think it takes a 16" two 21" and one 26" Loom clips can be found at the hardware store and yes, the indentations don't line up, just as in your picture. I had to cut some rubber from the bottom of mine for an exact fit. I think I used the 1" variety. Ben
  6. I believe Realoem is not really an ecommerce site, rather a thoughtful person or persons who put this data online for enthusiast consumption. The catalog was recently updated to Jan 2010 prices. As lots of people and likely CD will point out, the dealership can make adjustments to the recommended prices at will, they are free to make a profit and usually do. I have found that Max's site http://www.bmwmobiletradition-online.com/is about 20% less than my local dealer. My local dealer offers 10% off for BMWCCA members, so on larger items that are expensive to ship, I'm better off going local with a 10% discount AND sales tax than 20% off and paying shipping. I have not personally purchased anything from http://www.penskeparts.com/fiche.aspx but the prices seem close to Max's. Don't forget http://www.autohausaz.com/ for things like rotors and pads (free shipping, no sales tax) and www.bavauto.com for decent prices, no sales tax and free shipping on large orders (but not very large bulky things) -=Ben
  7. I have a set of early hubcap friendly 73 tii steel wheels that were checked for "true-ness" and professionally painted stock silver at a body shop, not rattle cans. I was saving them for a future project but would consider selling them, no tires have been mounted and they have not been used since the refinishing. Please contact me at mobiletradition at G Mail if you would like to learn more or see some pictures. -Ben
  8. I usually call them "early alloys" -- here is a picture of them on my 71 1600 that I believe had them since being purchased new in the Philly area in August 1971. Also fitted were factory mudflaps and a VDO tach near where the tii clock would live (dated 1970 inside) BMW Calls both versions early and late "LIGHT ALLOY RIM"
  9. 185/70/13 - I got some of the last Yoko Avid T4s in late 2008 before they went NLA. You might be able to find them from an online retailer if you look hard enough. I also have a set of Yoko Avid Touring that I use on my Kadette Rallye wheels and I like them just as much. If you can't locate any of these, I'd probably just get the Sumitomo HTR T4. This is my 1600 with the T4s in 185/70:
  10. THIS PART IS FOR THE "REAL" BMW OLD SCHOOL BIMMERS Indeed, there seems to be a diverse array of mark-ass marks, trick-ass marks, punk bitches, skig-skag skanks and scallywags, ho's, heifers, heehaws, and hoolihoos all selling overpriced items on ebay. If I wanted to overpay for parts, I'd just drive a mile down the road to my local dealership, at least shipping is complimentary. (in memory of D. Chappelle)
  11. My wiper motor definitely has 5 pins--must be for a 72 and up. Sorry! -Ben

  17. Per the Restoration Guide, my catch can is a 30" piece of 3/4" heater hose pointed south. Works like like a, well, a charm in a no smog test or inspection state like Indiana. -Ben
  18. My 1600 in front of the old lady's roached out garage when I found it in Rhode Island, and as it appears now in front of Old Bush Stadium in Indianapolis:

  23. I just picked up 3 Cosmic wheels from a FAQer (Thanks Josh) and I'm wondering if anyone has the history on these specific wheels, when they were made, what happened to the company, etc. These are stamped 72 on the mating surface. I've already read Delia's excellent write up on refinishing techniques via search and will take the plunge as soon as I find a few more to complete a set. Any leads on extra restorable 5.5x13 Cosmics are also appreciated! -=Ben [ mobiletradition at G mail ]
  24. Not Mine / NO Affiliation http://detroit.craigslist.org/wyn/cto/1865048906.html *1970 BMW 2002 unrestored survivor - $5000 (Grosse Pointe Woods) Date: 2010-07-26, 9:01PM EDT Reply to: sale-5qrar-1865048906@craigslist.org [Errors when replying to ads?] as the title says, this is original and unrestored. is it a show car? hell no...but is it a sweet-ass week-ender? absolutely. i found it eight years ago in California, had it trucked over and have only put six thousand miles on it. it is simply a car that looks like it's been driven moderately for the past 40 years. it has never been left outside in anything but warm sunny weather since i've owned it. details: 1970 BMW 2002: red with black interior only 83000 miles rare automatic transmission no interior, dash, seat cracks none of the usual shock tower problems normally associated with this model runs fantastic now, i don't need to get rid of it but i just don't have the time to drive it and want someone that does to be able to enjoy it. a car this rad shouldn't be locked up in a garage all the time so i'm letting it go. i think the price is fair so i'm going to be firm on that and i'm not looking for "interesting trades". e-mail or phone (313) 377-7164 with more questions <
