  1. I needed one to refurb a mirror, but decided it was just better to buy the new mirror since my glass was also chipped ((the glass was about $60 or the whole mirror kit and caboodle was about $185 from the dealer)) Plus, the mounting set screw is now a metric hex instead of a regular screwdriver...makes install and future removal much easier. mine rounded off instantly and I had to carefully drill it out.
  2. Got my first ticket in 15 years trying in my 68 2002...motorcycle cop said I was going 73 in a 55 on the expressway...my response, "cool, my needle bounces up and down, I was wondering how fast this thing would actually go" Result = $175 ticket.
  3. are you selling the clock? If yes, is it 12 Volt and does it work? How much? Thank you, Ben
  4. The silver paint is the factory finish...the top only is painted silver and the edge is left chrome. The very delicate trim ring is also styled to mimic this finish with bright aluminum combined with painted flat surfaces. This was a short term attempt to make the 2002 "more special looking" and differentiate it from the nearly identical 1600. Shortly after they gave up on this ridiculous idea, they moved to the full wheel cover (looks familiar eh?) that was used through 1973. I have 8 NOS trim rings and 8 hubcaps that were to be used on my 68 2002 before it became immobilized by force. photo credit: Sports Car Restoration
  5. Rear ended October 2008. Second picture is after it went on the frame rack for straightening. I have almost all the parts for repair, including the expensive new quarter panel. Looking for a good home that won't part it out. Still drives fine. California car until 2005.
  6. of the folks who joined mid October 2005...I thought I was on before the cutover...who knows, I can't remember what I ate for lunch today let alone 5 years ago! Ben
  7. All US spec reflectors side and rear have been removed sometime in the past few years, and this means they were welded up and the car was painted. In the listing Q&A section: Q: Is the car painted BMW Golf color or something else? A: It's an original BMW Golf color car. It has been touched up over the years, but it is a Golf car. Thx Tim I'd gamble that the car has been totally repainted since it would be very hard to match faded old Golf paint (new underhood stickers ready for install?) " a little surface rust above the rear wheel well on the passenger side " could mean that there was a spot fixed when the car was last painted and now it is popping out again after just a few years. "the car is totally original and unmolested." Well kind-of, I guess. I'd drive it, it looks like a nice car, but the E30 wheels and tires make the ride height too high IMO. Also wondering what the newish looking undercoating is hiding. Keep us posted. Ben
  8. I think everyone should skip Air or Nitrogen in tires and fill up with a Helium and Hydrogen mixture as the thermal conductivity of the Hydrogen-Helium mixture is far superior, IMO.
  9. Sounds a little Hoaxy? VIN# 155XXYY "Please do consider and/or include the 1600 CC Engine as well as the 4-SPEED Tranny should you decide on possessing those two item/s." http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-2002-Cabriolet-BMW-1600-Cabriolet_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem414bd69ea1QQitemZ280445230753QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks

  12. 2006 530xit SportWagon that I just picked up in October. It is a 6 Speed Manual with no options, and this is honestly the only reason I wanted it. The E60/61 has so many electronic doodads anyway...when you are buying used with a limited CPO or no warranty, you need to budget for some electronic repairs that a Camry would never suffer. The idrive is not too bad, I really haven't messed with it too much although I'm sure I have some customizable vent settings to take advantage of, somewhere, in some menu. Another thing to keep in mind is that the newer 3er is about the same size as an old E39 5er. My E61 has more room than the new 3, but not much. I'd look for a base 2006-2007 E90 3er with the N52 six (no turbo madness) and AWD and Automatic transmission if she fancies those things. I suspect that the cost of ownership is lower with a 328i than a 5 series anyday. -Ben

  16. I'm shipping these back to Summit Racing on Friday...if anyone needs these, let me know. --Ben I ordered these on Sept 1 and they were backordered from the manufacturer until a new set could be built for me. Since these arrived late, I ended up adding stock 2002 bars to my 1600 while it was in the shop. I can ship these back for full credit, but wanted to see if anyone here wanted them first as it appears they are now on backorder again. They are very nice bars (mid range beefiness) and powdercoated black for a stock appearance. $295 includes Fedex Shipping to Lower 48 http://02bbfb5.netsolhost.com/aftermarket.htm Position: Front Sway Bar Diameter (in): 7/8 in. Position: Rear Sway Bar Diameter (in): 3/4 in. Sway Bar Type: Solid Mounting Hardware Included: Yes Sway Bar Finish: Black powdercoated Sway Bar Material: Steel
  17. I have a non-sunroof headliner rolled up in my parts stash. Have no idea if it is good enough for somebody to actually use, but if someone needs a donor to make patterns, lets make a love connection. -Ben
  18. . Not Mine, but looks promising. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-2002-tii-1972-BMW-2002-tii-Barn-yard-find-unmolested-survivor_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem439bbdceb9QQitemZ290375716537QQptZUSQ5fCarsQ5fTrucks#ht_24067wt_1165 .
  19. This is great...I've been thinking about how nice it would be to fabricate individual panels of LEDs for each lighting component and one for the center turnsingnal. I'd encourage you to keep experimenting, sell a few prototypes and gather feedback. Then, get yourself a website and maybe eventually quit your dayjob. Good luck and keep us posted. Ben
  20. . This 1970 bumper is straight in good shape, great for a daily driver. Chrome on the center section is a tinge better than the ends, all are painted the factory tan on the inside..a small amount of surface rust is present there, like most. There is one small ding just to the right of the outer Euro license bracket holes, can probably be coaxed back out with a careful hand. Has US sized license plate holes pre-drilled. I do not have overriders or brackets. I can take a bigger picture of the dent if needed and email you. $150 plus actual shipping charges via USPS to your US location. Paypal OK. Send me an email through the forum. **I do have the matching rear bumper and ends but it is not as nice because it has a decent dent and a dime sized hole drilled in the lower section, perhaps for a rear foglight? I can package this in the deal for an extra $50 plus shipping.
  21. ...good thing she has on a scarf to keep her neck from getting frostbite.
