  1. Pass the Kleenex....I can't wait for next year! Awesome Video Jason....but where are all the 1600s that don't shoot fuel out of their arses? Answer: driving slowly about 5 miles behind the rest of the pack
  2. Hey Curt the realoem price is not accurate on this item anymore: figure about another grand in real world situations, !!
  3. Can you order 165/80/13 online somewhere? Try a bridgestone/firestone dealer? I had a set of 175/70/13 on 5x13 steel wheels and the diameter is slightly too small...it didn't look terrible, but it adds to the speedo calibration problem. -Ben
  4. Dont tell them how much you paid -- yet. nobody ever asked me what $ I had in my car...they just had very little luck figuring out what it was actually worth....and for me, this was beneficial because the only published credible sources are NADA classic. Make noise, but be professional. Assuming you were not at fault, and you went to the doctor, the adjuster will also give you some money (not a lot) for your basic pain and suffering/soreness. If you have not been to the doctor, go now and establish your condition, get an X ray of your neck, etc. The other insurance co will pay the bills or reimburse you. You need to file a property damage and medical damage claim--you can do this with your company and they will try to help you collect. I kept mine and I have a multi-year plan to fix it. If you are paying someone to cut metal and paint the car....it will be expensive, and quick. Feel free to email me thru the forum if you have specific questions. Good Luck! -Ben
  5. As the owner of a rear-ended and "totaled" 68....punch up your car in the NADA classic guidebook at "average" or "excellent" get a value and start negotiating. Good luck to you....you might get lucky? http://www.nadaguides.com/default.aspx?LI=1-22-0-5003-887-965-50552&l=1&w=22&p=1&f=5005&c=7&any=0 --Ben
  6. Hi Jim...yes....you are always welcome at my house, I think we usually leave around 7ish EDT day of show and return later that evening. Ben
  7. Hi Captain Jim....you can caravan west to Indy then up I-65 w/ us...(or for a special treat, we can detour on some state roads and check out the Fowler windfarms!) --Ben
  8. Don't sweat....these systems are only designed for 17 digit vin #s. The digits on your vin correspond with the serial number of an E30....nothing you can do about it! Have you ever called BMW NA to check for open recalls or campaigns on a newer BMW? They only ask for the last 7 digits. Ben
  9. Welcome! I think all starters from a 2002 would be fine. I discovered that when you look up parts for a 1600, it really wants you to put in 1602 or you end up with no results because it thinks you are a Euro model. BTW, what is your VIN number? Try www.realoem.com Your local auto parts store should be able to get you one to save shipping costs. -Ben
  10. I'd like to learn more about the 5 speed. Gracias, Bounce
  11. . My 1600 came with a very nice set of original early 2002 alloys with old dry Yokos. I had the tires removed, one wheel trued slightly and now I’ve got them over at the blasting shop to remove the poor quality top coat and the original layer lurking below. I’ve done this process for two other sets of steel wheels, (blast, etch primer, topcoat w/Polaris, etc.) What is the correct refinishing procedure for alloy wheels? Prime everything and paint the outside only or the whole wheel, inside, out and back? Are alloy wheels finished off with a clearcoat? How are the reproduction wheels finished? Thanks in advance! Ben
  12. Where are you putting all of these cars?
  13. Yes--there are freaks out there. I routinely see cars on Craigslist that are obviously stolen ebay listings....the links for more info usually go out to some other 'service' -- B
  14. It is the air pump bracket....it is shared with the dipstick mount...I know, what were they thinking. Here is what I did on my 68. Take it off, cut the bracket portion off flush with the dipstick tube mount, take a smooth file and shape/contour the rough edge, put on a new gasket and then re-install. No fuss, no mess, etc. BTW, I'm looking for one of these for a conversion for my 71. I'd like to keep the emissions stuff intact (including an uncut bracket) in the extreme unlikely event that I'd want to install it for novelty purposes when I'm in my 80s or something. --Ben
  15. WTB: Working Clock for 1600, Early "silver dollar" gauge style. Thanks! -Ben
  16. Ben Says: "Whew, I thought maybe this was an elaborate ploy to To Catch a Predator"
  17. Hey Vince, of all the cars to pass me at a swift rate of speed, (this was almost everyone) your car wizzed by without so much as a drop of smoke...quite a solid little engine you have there! I hope to see meet up with you again at windycityvintage later this summer. -Ben
  18. On the way down, I had a fuel delivery problem after I stopped to help someone else on I-77 S. The culprit was a tii metal fuel filter too close to the engine. After a 25 minute cooldown period, I was back on the throttle. Changed to a plastic filter Sunday morning and had no problems on the way home. Per my GPS: 8:05 Moving Time, :49 Stopped, Avg 63MPH moving.
  19. My 68 2002, Vin 1661250 was born on May 17, 1968 and was titled as a 1968 in California. I don't have any history on when it actually arrived on the boat and was sold on a dealer lot. I think you have a '68 -- BTW, on the Vin plate, does it have a very distinct 1968 stamp next to the VIN? --Ben
  20. I will be heading back to Indianapolis on Sunday morning after breakfast. If you are planning to motor north around then, I like traveling with the buddy system. I'd also like to stop at a bar for lunch around 1ish to see the start of the Indy 500. Ben 317 509 4208
  21. - Hi Mike....I'll be driving over from Indy in the first test of more than 10 minutes in the new car. (element of danger!) I'll be leaving Indy about 5:30 AM. Thanks! Ben
