  1. Anyone have a copy or the text of the Wall Street Journal article referenced: "the most collectible car in the world" ?
  2. At speed, my 2002 sounds like I have screaming bottle rockets attached to each side. It does alert the deer that I'm coming. Ben
  3. I purchased a set of nice new ones right from the dealer too--they simply don't fit. These are now in the non-returnable "why did I buy this" parts pile. Ben
  4. I bought my car from a reputable west coast seller, sight unseen, and just like most things in life--I'll only do that once. I have a great car that needed some sorting out when I bought it--plus a few surprises. Nothing electronic will take the place of you poking around, prodding, listening, smelling, touching, and driving (and stopping) in person. If you can afford a car hobby--swing for the roundtrip ticket (before you wire the money) as your insurance that you are buying what you think you are getting. At this point--I don't think there is much you can do about getting any buyers remorse rebates. I do feel your pain, I've been there Good luck and try to make the best of it, Ben
  5. ....but I have to go home Sat. AM BTW, I saw another '02 today, a light blue squarie--near UCLA. How great is this place? Ben
  6. I'm in LA on business and spotted my first '02 within 24 hours. It was a light blue roundie parked along San Vincente Blvd. in Brentwood. This was a welcome sight after a long day for this Midwesterner. Long live the 2002, especially in climate controlled California. Cheers, Ben
  7. You missed quite a bit. There is a boob over on the off-topic forum. Actually, not much else is new. Ben
  8. Don Dethlefsen's The Werk Shop - BMW Restorations Registry : "Rahal" Gallery - Bobby Rahal's 1972 BMW 2002tii Pictures: http://www.thewerkshop.net/registry/viewGallery.asp?g=7 "Rahal" Complete Restoration / Registry # 9 Owner : Bobby Rahal Year/Model : 1972 BMW 2002tii (VIN # : 2761646) Project End Date : 9/2/2003 About this restoration : Bobby Rahal, an Indianapolis 500 Winner and owner of "Team Rahal" was given an Inka 2002tii when he went off to college. He told me he drove the car very aggressively and upon graudation convinced his parents to send him to two driving schools as he thought his experiences in the 02 might have given him the basis to be a race car driver. As we all know, the rest is history. Bobby wanted to duplicate that Inka 02 and asked us to find a 1972 donor and build him the exact car. Since his original car was stock, the duplicate car is also stock with its original 4-speed transmission. Bobby says the car seems faster than he remembers! The Columbus, Ohio area is where you'll see this tii.
  9. without a 2002FAQ auction gallery, there is no way to make it better. I've listed parts on ebay in the past, provided the link in the FS section here and given everyone a fair shot. I've also traded things here on the FAQ or been given things (thanks again KC) that would have been impossible on ebay. I don't think we can have it both ways. Any other ideas?

  12. I paid a private mechanic friend $100 and provided the rebuild kit. I'm not the type of person who does well with itsy-bitsy parts. I have big thumbs. Ben
  13. This is how my 68 2002 works and --according to my 1968 owner's handbook, this is by design...it looks like they are indeed "parking" lamps. Ben
  14. Please send me a note--I'm interested in your other alloy wheels ((contact me thru the board "email" or at mobiletradition at gmail dot com)) Thank you, Ben
  15. I have a larger file that can be added to a FAQ reference page if someone can tell me where to send it to via email for posting. This came out of a NOS rebuild kit from about 1974. Ben
  16. I have an extra red blinker set of lenses..nice shape for a driver--can sell if interested. --Ben
  17. If you take the side reflectors off (new ones are cheap from BMW but don't say Hella?) you might be able to pop them in the oven to heat up the glue then work carefully with a scraper blade from behind to pry them loose. This is my method for removing roundels from hubcaps. Do this when you wife is not home....it smells.. Ben
  18. Stan--Ouch...I think this is a fine question. We are not all mechanics. I happen to be a Pimp.
  19. My 68 2002 has 2 bulb flatties--one bulb is for the signal and the other is for the parking lamp (which is only illuminated when in the "park" position--they go out when the full headlamps are on.) I remember hearing something about the ability to keep just one side on when parking along a street by leaving the signal on with the parking lights only lit. I cant remember where I heard this, but I cant reproduce the sequence.
  20. I'm bet this has been discussed before, but zoinks...how much coin do you think we waste whilst bidding away against each other on eBay?
  21. Please keep a tally--I'm saving up for a similar project and it would be useful to know the budget amounts for each component. Thanks, Ben
