  1. You didn't mention the gas--old gas probably wont combust very well, if at all. Try some spray starting fluid at the carb and see if it will fire. (get help with this) You can always construct a safe alternate fuel source to supply the fuel if you suspect the tank needs drained and cleaned. If the fuel system is apart, try shooting some compressed air to clean out the fuel line -- I did this on my Ford Falcon that sat for 8 years--it was full of yucky gas. If you get it running reliably--try some seafoam--do a search or google it--it might help clean out the crud. Good luck! Ben
  2. Hi Julio--I don't know the car, but If it is green glass (not plain clear) you need, I believe I have the driver's triangle window in question in my parts boutique. If you need the actual door glass, I have either the driver or passenger, not both--I'd need to check. Let me know, I'd be interested in a trade for your Intake/Carb setup (I'd like to buy this anyway, I've just been busy w/ holidays) Thanks! Ben

  4. I have 2 NOS sets of 4 that I don't really want to part with. I do have a few extras also in need of restoration that I could let go. Feel free to contact me via email....I'm looking for embossed beltline hood trim---perhaps you have a lead on this? Thanks! Ben

  6. take some pictures for me of the stock intake manifold/carb setup. My 68 2002 has a 32/36 and I'm collecting parts to return to stock. I'd like to see how that intake manifold and associated components compares to the later single barrel ones. And if you decide you want to change these bits out--I'd be happy to trade a complete 32/36 setup (freshly rebuilt carb too). Nice car! Ben
  7. Try spraying something besides carb cleaner to check for vacuum leaks--that crap will remove the finish from your painted surfaces in a hurry.
  8. Howdy--Ben here, also in Indy. I'm assuming this is the car posted to cragslist: http://indianapolis.craigslist.org/car/497467479.html I'd be happy to help you take a look this weekend, but it is kind-of cold and snowy, so it would need to be in the sellers garage. I'm not a master mechanic, but I know what to look and listen for. It sounds like this car is "rusty" --believe me, it will be even rustier in places you cant see or didn't think to look. Bottom line, if you plan to drive this car in the slop and snow, it will not be along term relationship. As you know in here in Indy, We pre-brine treat, salt and molasses/salt the hell out of anything paved--your 2002 will die a quick death if you drive it all year. If you have no workspace, plan on spending time on your back in the street, not ideal. email me via profile link if you want to chat. Ben
  9. I have the same problem on my driver side 68 too. The bracket just moves around a little bit...I have not tried to tighten it. What is your VIN#, colors/options? Mine is Chamonix/Black/no sunroof, 1661250 Ben
  10. This is a press release I picked up from BMW NA: BMW MANUFACTURING CO. TO BE FEATURED ON NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC CHANNEL'S "ULTIMATE FACTORIES" BMW Manufacturing Co. will be the subject of the National Geographic Channel's "Ultimate Factories" television show Thursday, Nov. 29, at 9 p.m. ET. The hour-long program will focus on the building of the famous Z4 Roadster and is a one-of-a-kind, behind-the-scenes tour of the high-tech manufacturing plants that create this world class automobile. The National Geographic Channel team spent a week in Germany, filming at the factory in the Bavarian heartland of Landshut, where the automotive industry's lightest six-cylinder crankcase is made, at the Munich factory that assembles 1,200 engines a day, and seven days at BMW Manufacturing in Upstate South Carolina where every BMW Z4 is built. The program also highlights BMW's environmental innovation by being the world's first automotive factory to recycle landfill methane gas from rotting trash to power its plant. Methane gas routed from the nearby Palmetto Landfill provides BMW Manufacturing Co. with 63 percent of all its power, reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the upstate of South Carolina by 60,000 tons per year - the equivalent of 4,300 cars driving around the equator every year. The U.S. plant has 4,500 associates - and almost 500 robots - that produce 600 vehicles a day. From the Body Shop to the Paint Shop and then Assembly, in just under 40 hours a sleek, customized and luxurious BMW Z4 Roadster, replete with the unique double kidney grill and famous white-and-blue roundel logo, is made. Tune in and see how it's done. BMW Manufacturing Co., a subsidiary of the BMW Group based in Munich, Germany, is the exclusive manufacturer of the Z4 and M Roadster, Z4 and M Coupe in addition to the X5 Sports Activity Vehicle. Its website address is www.bmwusfactory.com. In addition to the South Carolina manufacturing facility, BMW's North American subsidiaries include sales, marketing and financial services operations in the United States, Canada and throughout Latin America, and a design firm in California.
  11. Makes sense, from what I understand, the "Delivered to Importer" lingo means the date the ownership was transfered to Max H from BMW, not the date it arrived in to the dealer's lot. It would be interesting to know about how long it took for ship transport from der motherland to the US port of entry (where was this?) and then railed/trucked to the dealerships. Ben

  13. Hello, I also have a '68 2002 in Chamonix White, and we must be about the same age too. I'd be interested in staying in touch with you to share notes, as I'm also keeping mine stock, uncoverting a few upgrades, etc. What is your Vin# ? I'm 1661250 (May 17 68) --you will find that there are a few peculiarities in the early cars, some are hard to replicate if missing. Do you have any pictures--if so, post them here. Feed free to send me an email at mobiletradition at gmail.com Cheers, Ben
  14. I agree, I tried tirelessly to pay Casey Donahue for a NOS waterpump last spring from his stash of goodies....no luck....KC, if you are out there....I owe you! Ben
  15. Mike, I think your explanation of "ordered by a serviceman" might be the most likely. Everything about this car screams I am a 68 2002, except for the 1600 bits and color. Even looking closely at the vin plate, 1968 is stamped in the Vin number box, just like the early cars (mine included) The car also has correct US spec red dot indicators. It does not have the embossed hood trim or two piece hubcaps This one is sure a mystery, perhaps the owner has written mobile tradition to get a delivery date, color and country. Hopefully he also enjoys this free bit of advertising to our amusement. Very nice car. Ben
  16. Mike (and others) I saw this early "2002" on ebay and was thrown off by the Turf color, grille, gauge cluster w/ clock and interior color for a 1968. Vin 1661667 says it is a 1968, it has an early '02 dash and flat cap wheel. Is this simply a "use whats left in the parts bin" car? I didn't think Turf was an available color on US spec 2002s-- Anyone know this car? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-2002-BMW-2002-VERY-ORIGINAL-FROM-FIRST-YEAR-OF-PRODUCTION_W0QQitemZ150168483017QQihZ005QQcategoryZ42601QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting Cheers, Ben
  17. Coupeking has 3 sets available on ebay, I have a set, they are very nice: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-2002-2002tii-NK-CS-E3-E9-Vintage-Wheel-Lugnuts-20_W0QQitemZ300159148801QQihZ020QQcategoryZ33749QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

  20. Nice Car Tim--always liked these. Just curious, what kind of money would buy this car? Thanks, Ben
  21. Way to go mr. brad. I'd say those seats are out of a later car, my 68, VIN 1661250 has headrest-less seats, the old wide back variety that almost touch in the middle. Console also looks like it came out of a later car, Dash looks original, notice the lack of ribs on the "shelf" area. I'd assume that the old style brakes have been upgraded by now, but you might add them to your list, along with a rear exhaust hanger -- Keep us posted! Ben
  22. I just redid mine w/ 060 and no clearcoat, they look like new. Ben
