  1. In my opinion, keep an original car original. My 68 ‘02 is mostly original to my knowledge and on the visible things that are wrong; I do my best to research and make it right. (Mike Self can make a list, I’m sure) There are some things that you can do that future owners will appreciate as long as the appearance is kept stock and clean. These things can also increase your value. Carbs, Shocks, Wheels (period are best, nothing fancy) 320i rear drums, better seatbelts for example are things that enhance your safety and drivability of the car, but won’t bother a future owner. (Save your parts!) Please resist the temptation to add a CD/DVD player, amps and subs in the trunk….the best music is found under the hood, or out the rear pipe—don’t ruin it. Enjoy! Ben
  2. I have a nice backup pair of lenses that I got for about this price from a FAQer last year. Ben
  3. That is the retail price. Looks to be nice, but Sub-$10 IMHO, especially for a 1600-2. I wouldn't buy it on the principle that it has a cd changer mounted in the trunk, ruins it for me. Ben
  4. :::: Hello, I picked up a nice looking used vacuum advance distributor that I’d like to swap out for my PO supplied 008 tii unit with mechanical advance. [i’m running a stock setup w/a 32/36, but I don’t think the tii distributor is really necessary.] Question: the distributor has about a 1/16” or so of vertical up and down movement. Is this a sign of impending doom, is this OK or should I look for another spare? I do have a second really cruddy one in the “untested parts” bin that has no visible movement. – Thoughts? Thanks, Ben
  5. ...by Mike Macartney suggests running a length of heater hose from the valvecover down past the transmission tunnel and capping off the air cleaner inlet pipe. I currently run mine this way and believe me, the vapors from the crankcase are the least of my environmental pollutant concerns. Ben

  9. when it warms up. The Hoosier Chapter BMW club meets the 1st Wed of the month at the Brickyard Crossing Restaurant at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. We also host a Formula One Car corral in June for about 250-300 CCA'ers from around the country. Also, if you plan to attend Vintage at the Vineyards in May, you are welcome to join us in Indy heading east to the Dayton Area to pickup Mike and Jim before hitting the hills. I hope you have something else to drive during winter!! Sodium Chloride is evil. Ben Younce
  10. My car is sleeping. Northern Indiana (da region) is like another state away if you live in central or southern Indiana. Plus, I hear they like the Bears up there. Ben
  11. Actually my least favorite. I'm also not a big fan of changing the color unless you are stripping the body down first and painting the whole thing. Nothing worse than underhood mismatch, IMHO. Ben
