  1. Seriously, your tires will prob. have flat spots which will vibrate thru the wheel. Check the pressure before you go. Take some euro fuses, stiff wire, jb weld and duct tape, which will fix most maladies. Check your lights and signals before leaving. The battery might not hold a charge if it is old, you might load test it before you go at an autozone. Fan belts are cheap insurance too. Good luck! Ben
  2. I purchased an E36 in 2001 from Zionsville Autosport that had a salvage title that was converted to a rebuilt title after restoration. I had the advantage of seeing the car before, during and after the process. When I went to sell it last year--I was only able to get kbb private party pricing, even though I had over $5K in documented upgrades I did after I purchased the car. The rebuilt title status will always haunt your car and give the potential buyer the advantage when making an offer. But if you like the car--fix it and keep it and worry about "future value" in the future! This link has some nice "sold" examples: http://www.2002haus.com/2002sSOLD.htm
  3. I thought I had heard that they car was a squarie to start out..must have meen a rumor. Ben
  4. ...from the inside pics......what happened? How can you stop taking care of a car like that? Ben

  6. Last I heard, it was scheduled for sometime in September, at an undisclosed location: 6 weeks away?? -- Anyone have the details???? Ben
  7. BMW and Michael Schumacher have dismissed wild rumours that they could collaborate on an astounding $100m per-year deal to run from 2007. British reports sensationally claimed that the coup could ultimately see a ten-figure sum enter the current Ferrari driver's bank account, but Schumacher was quoted on Thursday as scoffing at the gossip. ''I know nothing about it,'' Schumacher said, according to sid, while the German reaffirmed his commitment to announce his future plans at Monza. The German said of the BMW tale: ''It's just a rumour.'' BMW motor sport director Dr Mario Theissen, meanwhile, said the report has 'no basis'. Source GMM CAPSIS International
  8. check the fitment of your exhaust pipe over the rear subframe. Mine only has about 1/2 inch clearance and makes some strange growling noises at specific speeds. Adjustment is possible, within reason--but its sort of limited to what the trans mounting bracket will let you do. Anyone have more advice? Ben
  9. I’ve been thinking about a new battery (stock location) and wondered if anyone has a favorite battery or if BMW sold one that was reasonably priced and fit and worked properly in a 2002? Thanks, Ben
  10. My 68 with original seats doesn’t have these, nor does it have any seatbelt warning system as our colleague has suggested. Perhaps, someone pimped it a long time ago for audio? Interesting--please post a picture. Ben
  11. Who outbid me? I'd like to take this home too! Ben
  12. My 68 ’02 also does ½ way in town and ¾ (or more) on freeway (4K RPM) I’ve flushed and filled, and tropicalized and cooler thermostated and I still have the problem. So, I’m going to wait for payday and get one of Curt’s radiators. If that doesn’t work, I’ll just drive till it blows up—I could use a rebuild anyway. Ben
  13. First off, keep your 2002. Get a collector car policy on the insurance so it's cheap to own and then find yourself a nice, used but well maintained daily driver—something that takes gas and oil only. In my example, I picked up a 1992 Accord from a co-worker for 1,000. It needed a wheel bearing and the timing belt was due for replacement, but it’s a DAMN FINE car for the money. The car has 180,000 and runs like new--try to do that with a Chevy Caviler. Sure--new cars are nice, but no car payment is nicer! Another smart choice for an Asian vehicle is an older Nissan Sentra. I'm not an expert, but I believe they use timing chains not belts, a good bonus that will keep maintenance costs low. If you are smart about it, you can also pick up a used GEO Prizm for a very good deal. The car is a bone stock Toyota Corolla with GEO emblems, and that alone usually makes it worth less because of the defunct name. $10 worth of emblems and you can change it back into a Toyota. Also, sticking with a 1995 or older anything will keep you out of trouble with costly OBD II sensors and associated parts that fail—you can virtually say goodbye to the check engine light forever. Good luck. Ben
  14. I saw the wheels you mentioned in a stack with other wheels. I was there wednesday afternoon. I was a bit overwhelmed and didn't actually buy anything. What I was looking for (early embossed beltiline trim for hood) he didn't have. I did want the factory rebuilt engine sitting on the milk crate, but it was over the size limit for carry on baggage. Ben
  15. stainless steel sheet metal screws and for now, zip ties where the j hooks should be. Ben
  16. Hi all, I’ll be traveling to the LA area for a meeting near Laguna Beach next Wed-Fri, and I may have some extra time to kill. Can someone familiar with the area recommend a few parts shops to visit or a nice pick-n-pull to explore? I’ve heard they actually have older BMWs in junkyards in SoCal—I’d like to see some! I also need a few parts for my early 68 2002, and I’ve had bad luck working over the phone. Who’s my best bet? If I fly into San Diego I could swing by La Jolla. Would 2002AD be a better choice if I fly into LAX? Thanks Californians! Ben
  17. Yep--that's me, hunched over the rear end changing the bumper fluid upon arrival.
  18. Not sure if the route takes I-70E to I-77S but I'm sure you could hitch on in West Virginia. Mike Self can provide more details. BY
