  1. Anyone coming from the west or down from the great lakes region can tag along from Indianapolis to Dayton with me if desired... Post here or send me an email for address. "Wheels Up" 6:30 AM EDT Ben
  2. Dependable Auto Shippers....Last year from LA to Ind--about $1100 for an enclosed transport—Terminal to Terminal. Door to Door is a few hundred more. Honestly, I should have sprung for door to door—at least then you wouldn’t have to see the “terminal” which is usually a towing yard with lots of mud and large breed dogs with attitudes. DAS said they will only do enclosed w/ wheel straps due to difficulty chaining 2002s down properly—makes sense I guess. Gas prices were post Katrina, so I’m sure the rates are about the same now as they were then. The GPS tracking feature is nice, but plan to let it sit OUTSIDE in the weather at the aforementioned junkyard for up to two weeks before it hits the transporter. After that, it will be across the country in 18 hours….no joke. Very nerve-wracking experience, but I didn’t personally have any problems. Good luck ----I’ll FedEx you some snow in a cooler if you're feelin' lonely next winter. Ben
  3. Hello--does anyone know the part number for the cowl drain tubes. looked but never found the correct category at realoem Thanks! Ben
  4. Like yours, mine has a Audi/VW logo stamped inside. The grip is rubber w/ faux stiching. Mine has a roundel button and the horn setup works, but it may have been modified by a PO with an aftermarket hub. It looks nice, but I don't think it is too valuable. Ben
  5. whah... Ben Brad: Hoosier F1 is just around the corner? One final roadtrip? http://www.hoosierbmw.com/f12006.asp

  7. driver side near firewall, look str8t down at the pedal action...there is a 2 wire stoplight switch. Inexpensive at BMW dealer, same part for E30, etc. I think. In a pinch--try shooting it w/ WD40 to free it up if its stuck. Ben
  8. Depends on your age, marital status, driving record, number of cars insured on your policy, distance to work, area of the country -- and the fact that they probably view the 2002 about a tick above a go-cart on the safety scale. No airbags, ABS, Blah Blah = you are “more likely” to become road hamburger if you are involved in a serious crash. The more risk you are to them, the more it’s gonna cost ya….. Ben
  9. SYNTHETIC STRIP SILBER 03/1966 03/1971 51111816063 Hello, I noticed that my 68 was missing the bumper guard edge cover, thingies. (Circled Below #2) RealOem, shows them as PN 51111816063, and the same number for the rear bumper. I’d like to order a new set of 8 for both ends, but I want to make sure they fit the US style bumper guard (looks like they should) before plopping down the big non-refundable coin for about 20 cents worth of Bavarian plastic. Anyone order and install these with success? Thanks Ben
  10. https://www.gregsmithequipment.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=33 I like the Direct Lift Pro 9F for $1,695.00 Probably made in china.
  11. I "won" a nice 71 2002 on ebay last summer, met the reserve and everything. Seller claimed car was "totaled" the morning the auction closed and he could not pull the listing since it was less than 12 hours from completion. I didn't pay anything or loose any money, but the seller was a total liar. He refused to show visual proof, saying that the ebay sale wasn't a legal contract. I left him negative feedback and then he did the same for me (?) citing "Failure to complete transaction: nutcase." as his reason. Bottom line, if you can't look at the car (and the person in the eye) before you pony up yer cash....you will always be disappointed in some way. Automotive Post Purchase Dissonance and Buyer’s Remorse Anyone want to write a book? Ben FYI: stay away from ebay seller mcgary2005
  12. .......to buy and send over the matching driver side CoCo mat! I have those black and white mats from BMW, they are nice but I'm not sure why they took out the driver side mat before taking the pics? Ben
  13. Unrestored, owned since I was 12. 62K, sitting in my dad's garage, no brakes. I'm going to pull it out this spring then do a comparo to my 2002, for fun mostly--after 18 years--why not?
  14. Use a wire/nylon brush on a drill or grinder to clean it up, then use diff. grades of sandpaper to smooth it out, run it thru the dishwasher, buff to shine and paint with high quality clear satin gloss spraypaint. This should look nice against the silver on black cover. I just cleaned up one that looked really horrible. Ben
  15. I’ve tried numerous times on different days and I just can’t get the lower portion of the rear seat back in. I’m sure this has been discussed before, but I can’t remember the sage advice given. Is there a trick? Why won’t those little bastards pop down behind the panel? Bring on the Elfin Magic…I’ve just about had it. Ben

  18. I have been working on installing a manual choke for my 68 2002 that had a non functional water choke on a 32/36. I ordered and purchased the correct for my year cable kit (13-23-1-352-753) but its too short. RealOem shows another cable available for later cars 13-23-1-354-544, and I am wondering if this cable is any longer. Does anyone have any advice on a longer choke cable? The Weber conversion kit came with a generic cable and knob, but it looks like something from a Bolens lawn tractor. Thanks, Ben
  19. I'm finding that 057 was the old polaris and 060 was a replacment. (early and late?) My local shop can mix the dupont code, but only in a cheap economy grade paint. ($18 for a quart) If you can find a shop to mix BASF Glasurit, this is the way to go, my local Glasurit vendor said they cant do/mix 060 in the line of paint that it requires. I wish Wurth was not in spray cans. Can you buy it in bulk from someone? I'm having mine done at a shop. Ben
  20. Band 1 & 2 (2 binders) or all in 1 (1 binder)? I've seen both. How are they different? Ben
