  1. Just curious, is anyone running the Igniter III in a 2002 here? It doesn't seem like Pertronix makes an Igniter III for the "left-hand" style points? Anyone know? All I found was the 71847V not a 71843? Just want accurate info for the community, not me. I don't need no stink'n III, I've been using the I for probably 15 years or more. 🙂 Thanks, John
  2. My $.02. Hope it helps Pertronix Electronic Ignitions for BMW 2002 Bosch Distributor 4-Cylinder The models vary based upon whether your distributor has “right-hand” points vs. “left-hand reverse” points. 1847V, 91847V, 71847V = “right hand” 1843, 91843 = “left hand” 1973 2002tii Bosch Distributor: 0-231-151-008 or 0-231-188-002 (“right-hand”). 1974 2002tii Bosch Distributor: 0-231-180-013 (“left-hand”).
  3. I can confirm... The 0 231 180 013 Distributor used on the 1974tii is a weird bird. For reference it takes these parts: Weird "left hand" Points Bosch #01012 Condensor Bosch #02102 or Pertronix 1843
  4. I always thought that one of them was for Bosch 4-cylinder Distributors with the "Right-hand" style points vs. the "Left-hand" style. But, I can't remember which is which... EDIT: I found the article with the info I remembered from Carl Nelson's shop (good read): right hand points = 1847V left hand points = 1843 Distributor Decipherer | La Jolla Independent WWW.BIMMERDOC.COM Use this information to determine which type of distributor you have on your 4 or 6 cylinder BMW engine. This will help you understand which type of cap,
  5. Pre-ordered two of them. Thank you very much for making this happen, John
  6. for me it's all about the width of the wheel 380mm+ or go home 🙂
  7. I added an extra ground wire to the sender on my 74tii and that solved the jumpy needle for me. John76 suggested it a while back here on the FAQ. It was especially jumpy when the right turn signal was being used.
  8. If you want to get a good match to the original color, I would take one of the wheels into Powder Coat It and have them suggest the best match. I did that with the air filter housing from my tii and they matched it perfectly. They're in Santa Cruz on the frontage road off of 41st Ave. That is, if you insist on powder coating the wheels. I normally go with paint for wheels myself. Like Mike said 🙂
  9. Search for someone who specializes in the old radios. Those original Blaupunkt plugs are out there.
  10. Most of the "real" rubber pieces I've purchased from BMW are coated in that glycerin stuff which improves the shelf life.
  11. Aren't the VW Scirocco Petri wheels slightly more dished than the BMW ones?
  12. This shorting out issue with the MVP turns was discussed a while ago: I've since reverted back to some decent OEM US (bulbous) turns on my 74tii which uses a single dual filament bulb.
  13. Yuup! I love those "real-bumpers" every time I sit on them when changing out of my wetsuit after a surf session. Yes, all dripping with salt water. 😊 ON TOPIC: Sadly those side panels don't fit the big bumper US cars. My 74tii probably wouldn't be here today if it didn't have the big bumpers. I got rear ended years ago and the bumper actually worked. Little to no damage to the body of the car. The bumper shocks collapsed as designed. Replace the rear bumper and shocks and was good to go.
  14. You can create a simple little pigtail using a couple of spade connectors, some wire and a couple of eye connectors to adapt the stock tii fuel pump wire harness to the new style pump without hacking the original wires and connector. That way it can easily be undone. Wrap it in a little friction tape and nobody will know. You might notice that the newer style E28 fuel pumps are quieter though 🙂
  15. It looks like MVP now offers a nose without the snorkel... 16. I've had good luck using the VHT Wheel paint in Ford Argent silver. If you have the wheels blasted down to bare metal, use a good metal etching primer first before the silver paint. I plan to use this same paint when I refinish the stock steel wheels from my 74tii. It worked good on the Ronal alloy wheels and I think the color will be a good match on the steel wheels too. I like using paint because it's easier to blast off when it comes time to refinish the wheels. When I originally purchased those Ronal wheels, they had been powder coated. That was a major pain to get blasted off the first time I repainted them.

Funny that you used some of the pictures I took of my wheels in your ad 🤕 The pictures without the plastic wrap are mine. The plastic wrapped pic was posted here on the FAQ by someone else a while back. I smell a scam !!! Buyers beware!!!
  18. Are those the proper silicone hoses that won't react with brake fluid? The rubber hoses connected to the plastic nipples? Just checking. Usually it's a special type of silicone hose blue or black with a braded type of outer sheathing.
  19. My 73tii has the side panels. My 74tii never had them since I've owned it. Did square taillight big bumper cars ever have the sideboards? With the relocation of the jack to the left hand side of the trunk and all? W&N - Set of trunk covers left and right. Part # 51 47 1 814 982 Still in the shrink wrap...
  20. Very True. It's getting hard to even find the (FPS) later production repros of the early 13" alloy wheels anymore. Let alone the later style which are even harder to find. I love it when people find what they're looking for. It's like American Pickers for the 2002 😁
  21. Every time I see a pic of Derby, it makes me want to repaint the Thrasher in Derby Gray. I love that color. Even if it wasn't original on a 1974 2002tii.
  22. Replacing those little grommets are a must, but does the kit include the little rubber/foam buffer things that on a stock car clipped to the door opening long metal rod? One of my cars still has these (sorry no pic) on that long rod and it kept the rattling noise down when you slammed the door or drove over a bump. You can easily insulate that rod with some rubber foam, but the original little rubber pieces that snapped on were cool. Anyone know what piece I'm talking about? John
  23. There is a Mercedes front license plate bracket that fits the rear on a 2002 well and doesn't have the lights integrated with the frame. A couple rubber washers as Mike suggested and Bob's your uncle. I have one installed on my 1973tii. Good luck, John EDIT: Searched and found:
  24. Whatever you do, replace the rubber washers when reassembling it. I ended up buying them from BMW... Part #16114080148 I I had mine powder coated in a semi-flat black. Semi-gloss, semi-flat... same Cost me about $100 and I'm happy.
