  1. Did the "B" in the "BMW" stamping on that strap get covered up by the nut? That is an awesome solution. Love your work! 😀 John
  2. What size? The 185/70 13's are still showing as unavailable. Patiently waiting... Not really that patient ?
  3. I have to admit I know nothing about the brass pivot pin vs. the plastic one. Sounded like a good idea to me, but what do I know? I've stuck with 4-speeds on all of my cars...
  4. I've had good luck finding Bosch red coils by searching on ebay. The trick is to try to find one of the German made ones that are actually painted red. All of the new ones are made in Brazil and aren't the greatest quality from what I've seen. I just did a quick search and couldn't find any German ones, but there was these which appear to be the correct Bosch part # 0 221 119 030 in the picture (DISCLAIMER: I've got no affiliation with the seller and can't guarantee that these are correct, that's the buyers responsibility ?) Search and ye shall find... OR, you might consider a BERU coil instead of one of the newer Bosch ones... 5. I think places like Ireland Engineering and probably others sell a brass version of that pin.
  6. I should RTFM or RTFWS read the f'in web site before opening my big mouth. In looking at the 123 US web site, I can see that you can add-on the special reverse screw shaft for an additional $70 when ordering one now. Thanks folks, John
  7. OFF TOPIC: WARNING!!!! ? I remember waiting for boxes of HO slot car bodies and other model car parts from Auto World back in the day... Long before I could drive (early 70's when our cars were just starting to become popular) I clearly remember waiting for my plastic model of the new Datsun 240Z to arrive. I was stoked!! Testors paint... and glue... Those were the days... I just did a search and they (Auto World) seem to still be alive and well... 8. Question for the 123 folks. Has this "design flaw" been corrected in the more recent productions of the 123, or is this something you have to ask for after the fact? I was thinking about trying one of these 123 out and would like to know. Thanks, John
  9. Cool to get some insight into Paul and his connection with surfboard building and how that translated over to the car stuff. I'm also glad to read his comments about carbon fiber in surfboards and that I agree with him regarding using carbon fiber for surfboards and how the flex that is so important gets lost with the CF. Good stuff! Also the origins of the Son of Cobra name is pretty funny too.
  10. Wow, that is one seriously clean looking engine judging from that pic. I would love to see that engine bay in person some day. Is that your car John76? If so, do you attend the Brisbane Swap & Show events? Would love to check it out.
  11. This is really good to know. Pacific Grove isn't that far from Watsonville where I live. The fact that he knows our cars and is also an enthusiast is a big plus in my book. I will keep him in mind the next time I need something done.
  12. Another cool benefit I just thought of besides the weight reduction is the rust reduction factor ? With the price of body and paint work these days, I might be able to justify a hood and trunk replacement on the Thrasher if I kept them all carbon fiber with no paint... Just thinking (dreaming) out loud ☺️ The ultimate surf machine with no rust...
  13. I've had good luck using IKAR brand points that I've found on ebay. I guess they were the vintage points brand sold for Mercedes cars back in the day. Made in West Germany, really good quality if you can find the ones that fit for your distributor. The ones I bought are ventilated (they have a hole where the points make contact with each other). This is just a random link that I found on ebay searching today, don't know whether they fit your application or not, but IKAR is a good brand. Search and ye shall find... Vintage Mercedes Ignition Points, 000 158 35 90 WWW.EBAY.COM Only fits certain years and models, double check this is the correct set of points.
  14. You might try contacting Advanced Distributors. I had them rebuild my stock distributor for the 74tii with the vacuum retard and was surprised that when it came back, it had a new vacuum thingy on it. Jeff from AD recommended that I run it with the vacuum thing disabled (plug off) though. He said the distributor acts just like a Bosch 008 centrifugal advance distributor used on the earlier tii's (72-73) if you plug off the vacuum retard port. I'm still running it with the retard in place. So, I guess, I'm retarded ?

  16. I wonder how much $$'s it would cost to have the snorkel deleted from my '74 tii? Every time I look at it, it reminds me of the time I rear-ended someone on HW1 back in the day ? I clearly remember the very pretty girl that I hit who was driving a brand spanking new red 325 is. I felt and still feel so bad about it. What a dumb ass I was. ☹️ Stop and go traffic on HW1 on a rainy day...
  17. Coupe guys might be interested in the 3.5 liter and transmission.
  18. LOL, at first glance I thought you had put a Honda engine in there. Ha Ha! ? Inline 6'ers are smooth...
  19. Is that the 350mm version or the new 370mm version?
  20. Don't get me wrong, I don't hate the e30 bottle cap wheels. At least they have a proper offset and fit the '02 perfectly. I prefer them over the various e21 wheels that have the et18 offset. The e21 wheels might look cool, but with the et18 offset they stick out a bit too much for my taste. Plus the e30 bottle caps are a 6x14" wheel which can be a plus if you like the wider 6" footprint...
  21. Same here for me with my 73 tii. With my 74 tii, it's a different story. I put quite a few miles on my 74 tii annually. I'm still considering putting the CN36's on the 74 too though...
  22. One thing to keep in mind is the wear rating of each brand of tire. I've never seen the wear rating published for the Pirelli CN36 tires. Having owned a set on my 73 tii, I know that they are a pretty soft compound. That why they grip really well and are fairly quiet. I don't daily drive that car, so I'm not too concerned about them wearing out really fast. But, if I was planning on daily driving and putting a lot of miles on my car, I might think twice about forking out the dough for the CN36's. Having said that, I love the way the CN36 feels and also the way they look. I wonder how the wear rating of them compares with the other period 13" tires like the Michelin XAS or the Dunlop SP Sport Aquajet? Does anyone know?
  23. When I bought my orange 73 tii, it had E30 bottlecaps on it. I ended up trading them for a really nice (almost new) set of the later style 13x5 steel wheels from a 1975 big bumper car. Those are the steel wheels I'm running on my 74 tii to this day. The guy I traded the wheels with thought I was crazy at the time and that he was getting a real good deal. Lots of people back then were dumping the steel wheels.
