  1. I finally got around to fixing my driver's side door brake on the 74tii using the parts from Brendan Pramono. So stoked to have a working door brake on the Thrasher again. Thank you Brendan for making the parts to fix this! ? The bracket on my 74tii had completely broken loose years ago... I drilled the mounting holes and then applied a little bit of primer. I also put a little bit of closed cell foam behind the bracket to close the gaps since my bracket was completely broken out. Worked great! Also already had the modifed Mercedes door brakes that Harry Davis sells. Those work great too. Much less pop than the current ones available from BMW.
  2. That is some cool stuff. Wish I had the cash. Droool ?
  3. Jus Piddlin' this weekend. I had a whole bunch of these NAPA Classic wiper blades in my parts stash so I decided to black out a couple using SEM Trim Black for use on my 74tii. While I was in there I refinished the wiper arms from the 74 too. Turned out really good. Off Topic: I stole the Jus Piddlin' saying from Sandy Smith's awesome YouTube Channel. Jus Piddlin' BBQ. If you're a beginner at using a Pellet Grill Smoker (like me) check him out. I've learned how to BBQ everything from him and he's great. Check out my high tech painting rig ?
  4. +1 on the ones from CoupeKing. Stainless, nice piece.
  5. Stupid PO is what that's about ? I guess he would stick a long screw driver through the hole or something?? Dummy
  6. I know that my 74tii has a similar hole drilled by the previous owner to help with adjusting the points (he told me when I bought it in 1986). Not sure if yours is in the same exact location or not. I'd fill it for sure. Jim's suggestion on a possible bolt in battery tray is a good option. Getting the tii alternator out can be a bitch. Good luck, John
  7. Here's a link to Jason's blog and you could send him a PM
  8. Rebuilt another tii Cold Start Relay using the updated internals from Jason P. and the decals from Mo Faraz. Polished the case using rubbing compound and a lot of elbow grease. Then wiped it down with Clean Solve. Applied the decals, then hit it with a little clear coat. Turned out looking pretty good considering how corroded the outside of the box was before I started. More importantly, it works great! Thanks Jason and Mo, John
  9. Hi Jason, I just finished up rebuilding a second cold start relay using your kit for the new internals and the new decals from Mo Faraz. Turned out looking pretty good and works great. Now both of my tii's are running with your electronics in them. Thanks again, John
  10. That picture of the spark plug holder thing brings back bad memories. I had ordered two of those from the FAQer who used to make them and never received anything. Then the guy totally ghosted me. The only time I've ever been burned by someone on the FAQ.
  11. You learn something new every day, or at least I try to. Thanks Toby ?
  12. I'm shocked, a LFH? You need at least a Medium F'in Hammer (MFH) for that job. I know it ain't 'merican, but around $10 bucks from Harbor Freight ? Also, I think you can still get the 230mm backing plates new from BMW if you don't want to switch over to the 250mm "upgrade". EDIT: I'm WRONG (as usual ☺️) the 230mm backing plates are NLA. Oh well...
  13. The VIN on the side of the Thrasher's engine bay was so rusty you could hardly read it. So I went to town with my handy dandy Harbor Freight tool with a little stainless wire wheel. Then I hit it with some self etching primer. Now I can read it.
  14. Those pics bring back memories. Boy how I miss those Yokohama AVID T4's ? Are those some Borrani wheels I spy?
  15. Took a drive to escape to reality...
  16. Took the Thrasher out for a little sunset surf check. I could see that the predicted new south swell is starting to trickle in at our local beach (Manresa). On the way back home I ran into an unexpected thing and had to pull over. A 1914 Ford. Wooden wheels. 4 banger. The distributor cap looked a lot like our cars. The owner came out and told me all about it. He knew about 2002's too. Was very cool. Sorry, I know it's off topic...
  17. I'm going to do an oil change, valve adjustment, fuel and air filter change tomorrow on the Thrasher. Will check the plugs and gap them. I'm glad I'm a hoarder. I've got so many NOS plugs to choose from, I don't know what to do. Old German made W8DC's, W7DC's, NGK BP6ES, BP5ES or Beru's... I'll probably just re-gap the BP6ES's that are already in there. They always look good whenever I check them. ? Thanks, John
  18. Gary, You're asking the wrong guy with all of those specifics about the gaps and what not. I've always just installed the NGK plugs out of the box without gapping them. I mean, I checked them, but they seemed close enough out of the box. Funny you should say Russian made Bosch plugs. I remember getting a batch of Bosch W8DC's that were made in India that were just terrible. You could see the crude quality in the metal casting on the plug. They might have been knock offs, I don't know. In regards to hard starting, have you checked out your cold start relay to make sure it's working properly? Jason P on here sells a really awesome rebuilt circuit board for those relays which work really good. Good Luck, John PS, also in regards to resistance. I use the stock type wires (from Kingsbourne Wires) that have the bakelite ends which have some resistance spec. too. I don't know the number off hand. So many details with these funny little cars eh?
  19. With a little bit of searching you can probably also find the hotter NGK BP5ES's on ebay too. My 73tii likes the BP5ES, my 74tii the BP6ES. Go figure...
  20. Nice and hot here today for repainting the wheels. Sanded the faces with 320 then wiped them down with Wurth Clean-Solve Surface Prep. Then hit them with VHT Wheel paint in Ford Argent Silver. I really like the Argent Silver. Has a little more gray in it which is what I wanted for these wheels. Now I just have to wait for Longstone Tyres to get in a fresh batch of Pirelli CN36's ... No clear coat this time around.
  21. You can also find NOS NGK's on ebay too: BP6ES: 4 (FOUR) NGK BP6ES SPARK PLUGS = $15.96 = $3.99 EACH = FREE SHIPPING WWW.EBAY.COM 4 (FOUR) NGK BP6ES SPARK PLUGS. note: THESE SPARK PLUGS HAVE A THREADED TOP. and... https://www.ebay.com/itm/144607511634?epid=230335221&hash=item21ab478452:g:3RoAAOSwbPhircnM
  22. What a beauty! Sorry you have to sell, but Good Luck. It should bring a hefty price tag I would hope...
  23. Yup. Those W8DC plugs from Bosch haven't been available for a while. You can still fine them on ebay from time to time. Lots of folks, including me, swear by the NGK plugs. The W8DC equivalent plug from NGK is the BP5ES. Some folks also go for the NGK BP6ES. There's also Champion plugs that are readily available, but I don't know the number because I've never used them. Hope that helps, John PS, I've heard that you need to be careful when ordering the NGK plugs to make sure that they have the removable (screw on) end cap or not. If you have the older style plug wires that require the end cap on the plug to be unscrewed, this is important. I don't know the part number difference between the fixed end cap kind and the unscrewable kind. They used to always be the old style unscrewable ones.
  24. Luckily most shops I've dealt with are willing to accommodate me bringing in some of my own parts if they're ones that aren't readily available or there's a long wait time to get them from let's say "BMW". For common stuff, not so much. I understand that it's a big part of how they make money so I try not to push it too much. For certain items like a guibo, I want to make sure it's the OEM BMW part and not some aftermarket crap, so that's where I might bring in my own stuff or have to wait for them to get the part that I want even if it takes longer.
